ITB Spider

Having recently aquired a 1973 Spider ITB car, I am trying to sort out the rear end. Rear end is set up with panhard rod, carrera shocks and 225 lb springs and no rear bar. Front has 1 1/8 heim jointed custom bar, 450# springs and koni reds.

Question is should a rear bar be included? The rear has to be very soft with the huge front bar. A recommendation for a 19mm rear bar has been made. Does anyone have a recommendation or affirmation?

Thanks
Zal

Drive it first. I've talked to a few vintage racers, and there is a debate which is better, as both soft and stiff can lead to oversteer in their own unique ways.

Soft will allow the suspension geometry do the inteded passive rear steer, which can be interesting to drive on, while hard will do the normal oversteer from the stiffness.

What I understood was a "common" set up were 1200lb springs in the front, stock - coils to level the car for the rear. Kind of surprising to me...

But I would find a track day to try the car out first. And you can take off the bar to experiment with that as well.

If you lived near SW Michigan, you could come to my Gingerman event on October 18...
