13x8" wheels on 2000 GTV w.o. mods?

Thinking about a set of trackday wheels for my '74 GTV, and, as usual, I'm looking for something cheap(ish). Can't afford GTA replicas or new Panasports, and widening the stock steelies to 14x7 would cost almost $200 each (powdercoated).

Which leads me to readilly available 13x8" steel racing wheels for dirt-track cars ($50 or $60 each), which I've seen mounted on a few GTAM replica cars on the BB. Most (but not all) the cars I've seen like this had the extended GTAM fiblerglass fenders fitted.

Is it possible to fit 13" rims on the later 2-liter GTV spindles? Will they clear the upper and lower balljoints? Will the stock ATE calipers fit inside?

At the rear, will 13x8" rims clear the outer fender? I know 14x7 can fit inside the stock later-style fenders... maybe a shorter 13" rim will just fit? Or is it necessary to cut metal out and fit flares (I could live with "bubble" flares... don't want GTAM fenders).

Trackday tire choice is better in 13" sizes, too.

Any thoughts? Experience?

Thanks,
George

I don't think you'll fit anything wider than 7" under the stock fenders.

I'm not sure a 13" wheel would clear the brakes.

Hmmm... looking at those GTAM pictures, you're probably right.
13x7" steel wheels are available, too.

So... how to people fit 13 x whatever wheels on their front spindles/brakes?

George

Generally, they don't. The GTAM was quite modified, IIRC the front brakes were not exactly standard 115 series ATEs.
