165SR14 is the correct OEM size, but it is the size from the days in which the tire size didn't even include the sidewall specification... There is nothing wrong with the Vredesteins, but before you go buying "classic" tires have a look at this post: My First Post is a Request for 165SR14 Replacement Tire Info.

Realistically in the US I think most cars by the late 70s had 185/70-14, especially if they had Turbinas or other mags. Though those may not have been the actual originally fitted tires.
