I think this is precisely the crux of the issue... Simon is busy with the overall re-design, and therefore cannot get to sticking something there. I'm sure he would love to get to the "Boom. Solved. Done." phase, but he just has too much to do before he gets there. However, he is asking for others to help him make that step happen... This would help him, and it would also solve the issue of people looking at something that they can't read. Hence, his "challenge". A good solution, IMHO...
Best regards,

They really are a PIA to manage and to keep track of. Unfortunately they are need and will remain until or when a better revenue system presents itself.
Regarding the placeholders: If any of you who don't like the placeholders would like to write up a nice tech article or anything Alfa Romeo related I'd be happy to use them when I am finally able to complete the redesign. Right now I'm on vacation with the family with limited internet access so don't expect any changes for the next week or so.
I "CHALLENGE" all the naysayers to send in their articles or tech write ups. Instead of complaining why don't you be part of the solution. I'll be anxiously be awaiting them.

Ken, when I read your post, I heard someone talking out of their rear-end. Ads can be placed wherever the administrator/moderator wants them, of course there might be limitations to the software. There were ads on the right column before, so this kind of thing is nothing new. Your post should have stopped at: "I don't know the technical details..." because you are right, you don't know, so continuing to speculate about something you have no idea about doesn't make any sense.

See above post + who can help him make that happen? No one else on here other than two other moderators have admin access to this website. I've made a suggestion and its been done before, so why not go with something that works? Stop jumping the bandwagon like everyone else and keep things in context.

Sean, there is no need to get rude. I was simply trying to point out what Simon stated and you appeared to miss. The Articles are "Place holders" not ads. They are there to reserve the space during the design process until they can be replaced by the final product.

Ken, just replying to your tone of post I can read what Simon said and I stand by my statement.

The other thing I don't care for about this particular ad is that it messes up the formatting of posts.
I think you completely misunderstood this thread, so hopefully this clears it up a little.
For those of you joining the bandwagon, read the whole thread first...that might help...*cough* gary & nicola *cough*

Sean, here's what you said to start this frustrating thread:
"Can we remove the articles please?
Since a large portion of the Alfabb population doesn't speak this language, could we please remove these articles to the right of the screen? It takes up unnecessary space and ruins the format for the rest of the page."
I'm sorry to say that I've read this entire thread, a function more of stunned disbelief than interest on my part. I know exactly what you're cough, coughing about. Several people have tried to explain that the "greeking" under the Articles heading, the section that offends you, is there simply to indicate what that space will look like when there are actual articles to call up. I hate to be repetitious, but this doesn't seem to be getting through.
Simon's suggestion to speed up the design process -- and thus eliminate that language you can't read -- is for AlfaBB participants to get busy and come up with content for that section. This is your invitation to participate, if I'm reading Simon's message correctly.
Furthermore, I find it puzzling when you write that the Articles section "messes up the formatting of posts." It doesn't mess up anything on my screen, so I wonder how it messes up yours?
Geesh, can we please quit carping and give Simon a chance to finish his redesign? He's given us an amazingly generous gift. The least we can do is act like we appreciate it.

Sean,
I'm not jumping on any bandwagon... If you don't understand how place holders work (and why your suggestion makes absolutely no sense), and don't see how you can be a part of any solution, then I'll just leave this thread alone...
Best regards,

I voted to not remove them. However it would be nice to be able to read them.

Didn't you get the latin text from an old Word Perfect Manual?
Just voted no, seems like I'd seen that Latin gibberish text or similar 10-15 years ago in a Word Perfect manual as dummy text in the examples. I'm Too lazy to look it up and give y'all a citation/verify the exact quotes <g>. But, I've been amazed at all the good formatting things that have happened in the history of the Alfa BB and I know how hard it is to bring a new version of a web product online, so if this makes the designer's job easier. . . he deserves to do it the way that will make his job most efficient. Kudos to him for all his great efforts!
And does anybody have any new pictures or contributions to an important thread?
Best To All,

The little box you refer to with AlfaBB 2.0 seems to have disappeared on the latest version of the BB page. Is there another method for a subsciber to eliminate the "greeking"?
