I would wager that if this new look was the original look from the beginning and the original, old look was then introduced as the new look, there'd be just as many complaints.

Sheesh!!

On to more productive matters (like providing content to the BB).

The first impression was the plastic logo--without "Milano".

Don't think it is needed.

Next was the Alfa Romeo in the classic script.

I miss it.

Simon-
What do the "Wrap [code]/[php] tags around selected text" buttons do?

On another note, at least there's no one bickering about having their car in the masthead. That's gonna change soon isn't it.

UI Anomalies

I'm fine with the new look/feel. Sometimes you just gotta make a change to keep yourself involved and thinking.

I don't see a difference between the HOME tab and the FORUM tab. Maybe you have future plans for these areas.

We lose the tabs on the GALLERY pages - hence our navigation scheme is broken. Probably just some CSS or something.

Great job overall. Great site always.

Why do you feel the need to apologize? It doesn't matter what you do, people are going to whine about it.

Careful there, Simon, you are opening the door to more whining and demands that there should not be any subscriptions.

I am with Papajam on this one. I am here for content.

I think you are right about that.

Where wine is concerned, the look of the label is important to me. I'll never buy any of the wines in the picture below.

Nor will I buy this wine:

But, I digress. It really doesn't matter what Simon does, people are going to whine (or is it wine). Most people don't like change.

What I find sad is the lack of tact when opinions are expressed. Phrases like "I think it sucks" really do nothing to help Simon. That's not criticism, it's just being ugly. When offering opinions, ask yourself how you would feel if you were on the receiving end.

This is not bad news. Just switch it back to the green skin permanent-like for everybody. Problem solved. I am serious.

Nonsense. There is a difference between cheap advertising photos and the ceiling of the Sistene Chapel, yes? Some things have pleasing appearances and others less so, yes? Are you with me so far? OK, good. So that is the point. Many of us find the new look, specifically, the color scheme and the choice of subject matter for the graphical design elements much less attractive than before the change. This is not trivial. I visit this site nearly every day and spend a fair amount of time reading and typing. The old look had a curiously soothing effect. It made me feel like I was in a club room where anyone I have known for years might drop in at any time. The essence of Warm and fuzzy.

Now, as I have tried to explain, I feel like I am in a restroom at a hydraulics supplies distributor or in a seat on an airplane with nothing to read but the god-awful "In Flight" rag. The new look has precisely that sort of ambiance. It is not warm and fuzzy. It is cold, garish, and plastic. I don't want to spend time here anymore. If you don't care - if it seems ok to you and you don't see what the fuss is about, fine. Please keep your snide remarks to yourself. After all, you are no longer commenting on the site, you are now commenting on those of us who are commenting negatively on the site, aren't you? Well?

Anyway, those of us who do care, are distraught. Our favorite club has been torn down and replaced with an Applebys or some such horrid chain installation extruded from the same plastic spigot that plops those garish plastic malls with a Starbucks and a Michael's and a Bed, Bath, and Beyond and the rest of the usual suspects down on every square foot of the United States. Again sorry to be so blunt and rantish, but here is my summation: some people say, "Oh, I kind of like the new look." Other say that they hate it. I haven't heard anyone say that they hated the old look and LOVE the new look. I and others hate the new look and loved the old look. See the difference? This is a net loss. Throw her in reverse!

Regards and fini,

Imo, it's a simple acknowledgment that the problem continues to exist, which has been discussed on another thread: "Why is this site so slow" or some title similar to that; and that Simon is aware and continuing to work on it so that everyone worldwide can use the board effectively; and also letting them know that he has not forgotten, but it's not his top item on the list to fix with the other priorities with the new look.

Brian, that door was already opened by another poster back further in the thread complaining about creating classes on the bb with the subscription levels and the options available, not specifically, limited to ads, but being able to select the old format, which it appears is not going to be available any longer.

As are the majority of us, and eventually, while many don't like change or the new look; they will stay if content weighs out heavier than aesthetics.

I agree. I am one who is always picked on by a few for failing in this venue, even though I try to offer a balanced, non-four letter word or derogatory reply, which no matter how I word it, is not considered "constructive" or helpful by the 4 or 5 I could list here but won't. Spiderwebb and I tried to offer an example of what we felt the new design offered as comparison to an item that could be held and you saw that readily trashed and shot down by a couple.

AlfaBB Site Redesign - Feedback Please

Randy,

I'm not going to requote your post that has already been requoted at least twice, but since you asked, indirectly:

I find the blue color soothing like the clean, clear ocean I remember as a child when it was clear and you could stand in the water and actually see your feet, in addition to the contrasting colors and design being much easier for me to read. I never liked the original green, red, and white, although, I recognize the Italian flag significance in them; it always reminded me of Christmas and I was waiting for the carols to begin; as far as readability, it was much more difficult for me.

So yes, I selected content and friendship over aesthetics in the previous version of the bb and haven't said anything about it until now. I went through many of the same content items being discussed here in selecting the book cover for Pat's All Alloy book. There was back and forth, differences of opinion etc. but we finally discarded the publisher's original idea and went with something that was cleaner and more representative of the content of the book, but kept the script title style to tie it as a second volume to the Bible.

Take a deep breath and try and recognize something beyond the change you see; Simon is never going to make everyone happy and in his own way is trying to tie things together that are logical and make sense to him, but possibly not to us.
