Bigger avatars?
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to allow bigger avatars - you know, the small pic under the login name. I dont know if it will take too much space on the server or make load times too high - but I like that many have put pics of their cars in there - would just like them bigger, so I could really see them! (need glasses )

Jørgen,
I was originally concerned with the size of the avatars only because we are working with a limited amount of web space. Another concern of mine was that it would slow up page load times for dial-up users.
If more people can chime in and let me know if this is something they want then I can increase the size.
All those in favor say “Aye” all those opposed say “Nay”.

Simon - Put up a poll thread with say a 1 week time deadline.

I'd say twice the size won't create huge demands on bandwidth, storage, or readability of the messages.
Three times the size would affect readability of one line messages as the avatar overhead would increase the vertical space this type of message needs (we'd be looking at a lot of empty space in the message body thanks to the avatars).

Some other boards I have visited allow larger avatars, and it seems that it's an invitation to go overboard.
Sometimes it looks like a competition to post the most outrageous graphics as opposed to quality content (like we enjoy on this site).
I guess this isn't worth .02, so call it an .01 for my thoughts.

I'm with Jorgen. I would love to be able to see everyone's Alfa in thier avatar. I've even held up a jeweler's magnifying glass to take a peek. Perhaps doubling the file size limitation would afford better viewing while not allowing anyone to go overboard.

I agree, thats the downside. Maybe a good idea would be to recommend Alfa/italian car related avatars - and no animated gifs? My confidence in the members of this BB is pretty high, so I'm sure the quality we're used to will be there. Just updated my avatar, by the way.

Jorgen, you inspired me to change mine. I had the Veloce avatar ever since I joined AlfaBB. I chose another feature unique to '67 GTVs.

I was your inspiration yet again?
Great avatar, Kai - like you I really like to see this pics of the BB members cars while reading the posts, it sorta put the writing in perspective. (who can get enough of Alfapics? )

I think the sizes are perfect, but then again, I have 20/20 vision...
Also, its annoying when people put animated/non animated pictures in their signature!
