John - What program are you using to prepare you pictures? When you save it as a JPEG format, there is usually a choice of resolutions. Save in a low resolution and no more than about 5-7" wide.

If you're using Microsoft Photo Editor, on the "Save As" dialog box, click on "More" and that will give you slider bar to select resolution.

thanks

thanks john.

i'm using a version of photoshop that came with
my canon digital camera. the camera is a 4megapixel.
the least resolution that it allows me to save in is beyond
100k bytes. i might find something else that allows a lesser
resolution.

Instead of increasing the compression, you may have to resize the picture to a smaller size (smaller resolution) such as scaling it to 640 x 480 or 1024 x 768. I'm pretty sure that if you's scale the image to a thumbnail of 300 x 400 pixels, you'd end up with a file smaller than 5 KB.

You probably have Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0.

If so, try the following:

1. Shoot your pictures in 1 meg resolution. That's PLENTY of resolution for a bb post. You can shoot at 300k resolution as well, but if you want to save the picture for something other than the bb, you'll have a nicer quality pix at 1 meg. You can shoot them higher but you'll just have to reduce the size and resolution more when you go to "save" them.
2. Open pix in Photoshop.
3. Click "Enhance, " then "Adjust brightness & contrast" Adjust to best viewing.
4. Click "Image, " then "Image size," then "Pixel Dimension" and choose the percent option. Set percent value to produce a image that's about 5x8" on the ruler scale on the picture window box.

or

Just set pixels to about 300 width. Height will adjust automatically to maintain ratio.

5. Go "Save as". Choose JPEG format and click. Next under "image options" set the quality to a value of "4" "low". I recommend that you save the image to your desktop so you can find it easy. Once on the desktop, right mouse click on the file and then "properties" and you can see what the actual file size is. As long as it's under 100k the bb will accept it. If the file size is really small, but you'd like the picture to be bigger or with more resolution, just go back to the original pix and play with the size and resolution. You don't want to save the image too big because then views will have to side scroll to see the whole thing. This may sound like a lot of work, but once you get the procedure down it only takes maybe 30 seconds to format a picture for the bb.

Once you post the picture on the bb, if you don't like how it looks, just delete the whole post and repost. I haven't figured out how to just replace a pix in an existing post.

Hey Roadtrip, congrats on your 1,000th posting !!
I know this will probably bore a lot of you experienced posters, but I am new to the internet. I have a sony Mavica that uses floppy disks in the camera. Could someone walk me through the process on floppy to Alfa BB picture posting. Hopefully I'm not the only computor challenged person who needs this tutorial.
Thank you in advance !!
