That is true. Canadians, having such a small relative population, being right next to the US, and using English as their primary language (I know about Quebec), and having a de-facto open border with the US, tend to get blurred in with Americans . . . and it generally irritates them. If you want to get a Canuk roused-up, give'm a few (err . . . probably even more) Molsons and ask him when Canada became the 51st state.
When I lived up in Grand Forks North Dakota close to the border, on the weekends you'd see mostly Winnipeg license plates at the local Mall, while up in Winnipeg you'd see an awlful lot of Dakota license plates.
With regards to Aussies, the history and ethos of the two countries is similar . . . . self-reliance, rugged individualism, and enterprise.

And don't take my comments as anti-American sentiment either, our little island would be rather screwed without them. I have met someone who said they were Canadian but weren't - perhaps they had some other issues... :?
Most of the left wing hippies over here are calling Australia the 51st state now due to the recent partnerships... We might have to be 52 then, with a designator AU

Sorry, my brain's just starting to thaw after 6 winters in Grand Forks, and that was 15 years ago. I have to say that the Nodaks and Canuks are a pretty darn hardy bunch. It's a pretty severe natural selection process up on the northern plains. Burned up a automatic transmission one winter when it got so cold that the transmission fluid congealed in the oil cooler.

All this talk about reorganization and look how disorganised this thread has become!
I grew up in Canada and I find most Australians are quite good at telling the difference between accents or ask if they aren’t sure. I have never seen or heard of any Americans pretending to be Canadians over here, seems ridiculous to me.
The only reason I like to make sure people know im Canadian is because its my place of birth and even tho I have been in aus for 6 years now I still have a sense of Canadian pride. Think of it as a New Zealander going overseas and being constantly mistaken as an Aussie, im sure they will always be quick to correct everyone.
I think it is pretty slack some of the comments about the yanks on this board, especially coming from the Aussies and its really obvious too. And I wouldn’t be surprised if most of them have not been to the US or even outside of this country.
I have been all over the US and enjoyed it immensely. Like every country it has its good and bad sides, and this is what makes it interesting at the end of the day.
I think the Americans on the AlfaBB are the most well informed I have come across and considering the traffic on the board arguments and politics are kept to a minimum. I cant see things staying this way for very long with all the little snide comments, and this goes for peoples cars too. It bothers me how certain people always have to put in their little negative comments about peoples cars, hardly ever constructive critisism, even if using things like and its still going to rub people up the wrong way.

And to make a suggestion... I have noticed in other forums they have a FAQ sticky.
This could work well in certain threads. It wouldnt take too long to set up with the help of others, simply thinking of certain topics that get asked a lot and using the search function to find relevant threads that have been discussed in detail before.
Once the most suitable thread(s) have been found they can be posted. This will help many people find stuff more quickly.
Here is an example of what the sticky might look like for say... the GT105 thread:
Exhaust:
SS exhaust - pro's and cons
improving exhaust note
Suspension
Suspension + other work B4 and after
Spindles: Suspension Geometry
And so on......
This list can be simple or very detailed and quite long.
This is a good system because it cleans up a lot of clutter and when really good threads happen they can easily be added for future refrence.
Of course all these links would need to be kept in the first post of the sticky so someone would have to keep it updated with BB member suggestions and additions. I can give it a go... let me know what you guys think.

Dude .. people have their opinions, it's what makes us all a little bit more interesting than the last person we argued / conversed with. Who the F uck are you to tell somebody that they're slack for having whatever opinion about whatever subject.. six years down under has obvioulsy been easy for you.
And for what it's worth, i've lived and worked in the USA, South America, Cuba, EU and am currently in London. So please don't tell me what to think about people, or how to interpret my experiences, there's already enough vertical mediocraty for the stupidest of us.
My 2nd to a suggestion was for the posters country of origin.. it makes the determination of 'tone' and relevance a lot easier..

Hmm I wasnt going to say anything either but I think you went a bit OTT GCL.. I don't think either Craig or myself were sprouting anti-US vitriol or putting all Americans in one basket.
If anything in fact, this board has shown to me that there are heaps of great people in the US. Yeah, the US has it's ugly side, but then so does Australia - can't gloss over events like Cronulla, Woomera/Baxter etc.
And for the record, I've travelled fairly extensively too and I'm half dutch, so hey, I get the whole "world outside of my own country" thing.
Cheers

The only difficulty I have run into is where are posts for "differential" problems. I think they should be added to "Transmissions"

I spend some time reading mostly and found in general most people thoughtful and helpful. I have gone through some learning curves especially when I went over the top with some poor wording. I apologize!
I found the technical stuff most helpful and appreciate it immensely.
I think this site may need some improvement on some things but never looked towards improving it. In short it works for me....
I also belong to Camaro forums so I may not be posting all the time but do read many things here.
A noticable difference between the sites they are more open to criticism when it comes to there cars.
I'll try to stick to the topic sorry...
I belive I'll leave it up to the people who made this site possible to make changes. I guess I'm a follower unless I'm in a car then not so much.
One other note I think it's great to have differences in opinions be it politics, religion and especially cars thats what makes the world go round some of you have stated that this should be a car forum only. Yet seems like it always leads to other stuff....Some have apoligized for stupid comments (me mostly) and thats life.
What I don't like is being told you can't say that or discuss that...
Thats why there is the off topic part which is terrific!!! We go through some tremendous amounts of stress in life some people need to vent or discuss daily occurances some serious some not.
I find the Yankee/Ausee battle quite funny and not offensive and it may even be healthy.
I'm an Italian born raised Canadian and see faults in being both but the positives outweigh the negatives and this is what this forum reflects mostly positives.
Keep up the positive recommendations interesting and necessary.

G'Day All,
On topic:
I do think the Anything about Alfa Romeos and AlfaBB.com forum should be sub titled That isn't covered by any other forum.
On the other topic:
When I travelled in Europe I met many Americans posing as Canadians. Quite a few were displaying Canadian flags.
Of course, I don't blame them, as Ronnie had just had Libya bombed and any American could have been a target for retaliation.
Now if anybody wants to construe this as an anti American post, don't bother, it's not.

One of my librarian friends was born in England and therefore has dual citizenship; she flies exclusively on her British passport from the days of the hijackings when they went through and "looked" for Americans as in the 1985 TWA hijacking when Navy diver Robert Stethem was the only one killed.
Mine is not meant as an anti American statement either. She is very proud to be an American and has lived here all of her life, but she is widowed with children as am I and values her life over a public demonstration of patriotism. Her husband was an Agent Orange casuality of the Viet Nam War and she left a very lucrative career as an immunology chemist with the arrival of AIDs, having very small children at the time, where an accidental stick could be a death sentence for her and her family.
Alfa content below:
We are all forced to make difficult choices throughout our lives....Alfa fanaticism should be one of the fun ones!!!
....And is that spell checker coming?????

Cheryl,
I met you at New Hampshire convention in 2004 as you were with Robert Bently book display as I remember with Pat's newest book, right?
Live does go on doesn't it? I had to miss Seattle and Tulsa due to scheduling conflicts.
All the best to you.
