Regional Forums
Simon, here's a suggestion. How about setting up regional forums for items only of interest to members in one area of the country.
Maybe just break up the events forum into regional groupings?

I had just come to this forum to write a post about this. Regional forums are a good place to develop localized tours and meets. Exchange destinations and such.
Perhaps break them out like:
Great Plains
Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and South Dakota.
Midwest
Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
New England
Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
Northeast
Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, DC, and West Virginia.
Northwest
Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.
South and Southeast
Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and
Texas.
West and Southwest
Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah.
Break out Europe, Australia and other destinations in some sort of listing that works for them. It seems like there are quite a few AlfaBBers from Australia, so it would make sense to break that country into regions (it's so freakin spread out).
Chris

Although I can see some advantage to the Regional Forum, I think that the internatinal nature of this board is one of its greatest assets. The proposed breakup frankly is a very US oriented list and that is not what we want IMRHO.
I am very pleased to read and see what is happening in other countries with Alfas and Alfisti. "EVENTS" seems to work fine as is.

You have a good point. You don't want to break things up too much. I'm a regular on Sport-Touring.Net (motorcycling website), and the community is much larger, but also very close. The regional forums allow smaller groups to cover regional topics, and there are many of them. Races, rides, picnics, bar crawls , you name it. It's a nice touch, and it keeps the regional topics from cluttering up some other forum.
I suppose if membership here blew-up there might be more interest in organizing regions, but for now the website fits the need.

Gee, I never thought anyone would see this as divisive. I don't see how organizing the events forum by geography would impede anybody's ability to read all the threads. We could have as many geographical regions as made sense, throughout the world.
It just makes sense to me.
Its also no big deal.

My first thought was that it would be divisive, but on reflection I don't know why I felt that way. It's no different that having the board broken up by car model. If I'm short of time, I may not read the sections on Milanos and 164s, if I have the time I do. I don't see how an event break down by region would be different. Read what's going on in Oz if you want to, if you only care about events local to you, read that section.
My 2 cents (Canadian).
