Uploading photos
What has happened to the "manage attachments" option? I have been trying to post some photos of my lovely 75 and nothing happens. The pics are all within the size limit and in jpeg format. I am using a Mac powerbook with the latest version of Safari. I had no problems last year.

I'm not aware of any problems but I've seen that the "Manage Attachments" dialog box at times opens slowly. However, I had no problems posting pictures in the Testing Area.
What does your browser show after you hit the "Upload" button in "Manage Attachments" ???

It's still there, but you have to click on 'Go Advanced' and then click 'Manage Attachments' and make sure your pop up blocker isn't blocking it.

I tried it in Internet Explorer and that doesn't work either. I dont have pop up windows or cookies blocked. I go into "manage attachments", browse for the photo and click on "upload" and nothing happens. As I said, it worked perfectly last time I used it in December. I am using Mac OS 10.4.5 and Safari 2.0.3. My photos are jpegs and within the maximum size.

How much time are you giving it? What is the picture size and resolution?

Picture size 640 X 480, 170kb. I have tried leaving them for 5 minutes and still nothing. The window says "uploading file(s) - please wait". Last year they uploaded in a few seconds. I am using an 8 megabit broadband link. I just tried again and got this message when I clicked "upload".
Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “ http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/newattachment.php”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005)

Have you rebooted your modem?

2 questions:
1. What is the format (extension)?
2. The error indicates a network problem. Can you describe how you connect to the Internet and AlfaBB?

The photos are .jpg. I am on a broadband 8mbps connection. The alfabb site opens very quickly and I can do everything except add attachments. I am not doing anything different from what I did last year in Italy and I had no trouble then. I just tried emailing the same pic to myself and it worked perfectly within seconds, so it doesn't appear to be an issue with my computer finding the file. I just wonder if it is a problem with the site and current Mac browsers (I am running the latest version of Safari and Mac OS 10.4.5) or a problem with the site full stop. Could it be a Java related problem? Whatever it is, it is frustrasting because I am itching to post my new pics. Are any Mac guys having trouble?
And another thing - the site seems to keep logging me out. I log on, write my post and when I go to submit it I am asked to log in again. I used to stay logged in for hours sometimes last year. Is there a login time out now?

This sounds like a corrupt cookie or maybe your browser does not allow cookies from AlfaBB (I can't help with settings for Safari, but there is some description of corrupt cookies in this thread).
I just read your post again. You mention "I log on, write my post and when I go to submit it I am asked to log in again." Uploading a file works pretty much the same way. You upload (submit) a file and this action is being kept track of in a session cookie. If your Mac does'nt allow the cookie (e.g. because there is a corrupt existing one) I would expect the file upload to fail.
So, troubleshoot the login issue and your file upload problems probably will disappear.

Attachment problems
Simon have you any idea what is happening here? I have checked my Safari prefs several times, cleared cookies, restarted the modem and the browser in fact everything I can think of. The only thing that has changed since it was working perfectly last year is that I have upgraded to the latest Mac OS 10.4.5 and Safari. The "manage attachmets" window seems to be different from last year however. What are the experiences of other Mac users?

I did a little bit of digging:
One of the things that changed on AlfaBB is that Simon had to upgrade the vBulletin software that runs AlfaBB because the old version was hackable (which actually was a PHP bug, not really a vBulletin bug, but because vBulletin uses PHP, vBulletin was exploitable).
Unfortunately, the newer vBulletin release seems to be less forgiving for problems that seem to exist in the Safari browser. Apparently, there are a lot of Mac users experiencing problems with vBulletin and other web sites. The majority of vBulletin developers and users seem to agree that it is a Safari problem, not a vBulletin problem (see here and here). But the results are inconsistent (see here). The core of the problem seems to relate to the fact that " Mac browsers consistantly refuse to allow CSS styling of form elements." Not pretty. Further proof that the problem is not specific to vBulletin can be found here, where a script is available that uses different style sheets for Macs to circumvent some Safari problems.
So, what can you do then? The answer is simple and ugly: Try using another browser. Firefox (the Mac version can be downloaded here) and Opera seem to be natural choices -- but they may have oddities of their own (as any browser has).
Hope this helps...

Thanks for the info Tubut. I am trying Firefox and the window now looks like it used to, however I am now getting this message when I try to upload:
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
My ISP doesn't use a proxy. Hopefully this is a temporary server thing, but i won't hold my breath. It is all very disappointing and unnecessary in my opinion. Sadly it is spoiling my experience with alfabb. I have some photos of my car and it doesn't look like I will be able to post them.

If it still won't work for you, I would try using a free hoster like www.photobucket.com
If you pay their small fee, you can upload unlimited amounts of photos.

Two more questions:
1. You mentioned earlier that you had to login again after posting. Is this still the case?
2. Are you using a firewall or antivirus software with a spam blocker that filters web sites and web traffic (pop-ups, etc.)?
