Disable Replies in Cars for sale/Wanted?

First off, I have no relation to any of the sellers or buyers here.

I've been lurking on this board for quite some time and registered for a short time. I understand I may get flamed for this...

Just my .02... I suggest the Admin disable replies by users other than the person posting in the Classified Ad in that Section. PM's should suffice for getting questions answered and exchanging phone #'s for serious parties.

My reason- It is extremely annoying to try to gather information on a car with individuals making statements about "wish I had" or "too many projects right now but if..." or "If you were on this side of the country" or "my wife just had a... (which is really a ""Wish I hadn't"") " .... On top of that it seems that there is a strong supply of "curious not serious" people posting controversial question's that support some type of a conspiracy theory regarding sellers and their intentions. Most of the time, this leads to several posts that are irrelevant to the item being sold and causes a Cyber-Jerry Springer Act to begin... I would guess that 60% of the ad's I've read turn into some sort of bickering. It's flat out annoying.

Long story short. By the time a prospective buyer reaches this website they most likely have a general knowledge of what to look for in vintage Italian auto's. If not, other areas of the site have provided me with tons of valuable info on different models and what to look for in purchasing.

This is a fantastic website and the individuals contributing valuable information are a huge asset. Don't let the knit-picking tire kickers and should'a-would'a's ruin it! Maybe a buyers guidelines (if there's not one already) per model would be a great place for these people to contribute.

Edit: A separate forum titled "Marketplace Discussion" would be a great place for experts to share their facts, findings and feelings on the cars for sale...

I don't see this happening anytime soon if it's possible at all, but I completely agree.

I disagree. These replies and remark (positive & negative) help to show the rest of us that there might be interest in a particular car, specifically one of a type/style that we ourselves might want to try selling if there were a market.

There plenty of Alfa Sites available to explore. If you don't like this one find another. I diagree with your assessment!! This site is fantastic and very well maintained. I find NO PROBLEMS with a comment or 2 about people selling a car or parts. Especially if someone is trying to pull a fast one. I agree sometimes the threads get out of hand, just don't look at them. Sorry if you don't like hearing peoples opinions!! We're a Unified Community and I enjoy reading someone elses opinion. If you want a Black & White add for an Alfa go to AutoTrader or Hemmings. I like it just the way it is.

Easy guy, why don't ya take it down a few notches? You act like you own the place, and you don't. Appears you don't like hearing people's opinions either, eh hypocrite?

Wow. I rest my case. And believe me, I've explored Alfa Sites... I never said anything bad about this site. Just posting a suggestion that may help promote the "unified community" you speak so strongly of (right before a subscribing member tells you to take it easy (edit: you subscribed.)...).

As mentioned I figured people would flame but didn't think I would be asked to leave the site... Are you a moderator? If so, I will simply be on my way. And please, feel free to delete this thread if you feel it in any way has an adverse effect on your website.

And you have been proven right...

I agree with Chris R. I don't know if any of you are or have been involved in helping fellow BB members find an Alfa. I am and I have been for a while. There are serious people, with serious cash, looking for nice examples, but it's just not worth it for serious people to get involved in what has become commonplace in the For Sale forum. Fortunately, there are plenty of sites where an Alfa may be advertised, so there is no real need to depend on the BB.

I would suggest to Simon (the moderator) that the For Sale forum is one place where there would be a real benefit in enforcing the BB guidelines about off-topic posts, rude posts, etc.

Best regards,

My theory is that some of these replies are from folks who want to keep an eye on the sale of the car because they have an interest in the market as opposed to the actual car for sale. This is the way to get email updates on the action. You see the same folks posting repetitive "nice car" type replies.

Great insight Ed. I never realized that each comment subscribes to the thread. I too understand promoting and protecting a market through posts such as "This represents good value" and "This is a steal" etc... Psychology of the sale plays a big part for some people looking for that special car.

I figure you have to take the bad with the good. Just like everything else in life. I find that some days the "rhetoric" is annoying, other days amusing and some days I am participating! This is a forum, right?

"I enjoy reading someone elses opinion" You should read before you write! This is the best Alfa site ever. Not being mean or bashing anyone. Sorry I'm too straight foward. It's the Rhode Islander in me. I don't like it when someone racks on a member or this site. It's easy to do, since your not face to face with that person. I can take it!! I accuactly enjoy it. NO hard feelings. It's not my place nor am I a moderator. I just like Alfas cause ALFASRULE!

SORRY if I upset you!!! I mean that sincerely.

Of course they could just subscribe to the thread (by going to thread tools at the top of the thread) without the "value added" comments.

The little button that says "Preview Post" has saved me a number of times...
