New Author and Thread Preview?!

Ok I just don't like it, but lets just say some do like this new thread and author preview at the header of each thread, whats really really annoying is when you get an email of a new thread made in a thread you've participated in..

you click the link go the new thread and thats all you see, not all the previous threads, just the headers for all the previous threads, arghh.. I want to see the whole conversation not just the one new thread, like Im going to remember what everybody said previously??

It also happens when you post a thread in a topic as well.. the only way ive been able to figure out how to get back to the whole conversation is by leaving the thread completely and coming back...very annoying.. sorry to rant but yea.. anyone else??

I don't experience at all the problems you describe. The only thing I can think of is that you may want to play with the display and subscription options in your User CP. It's quite possible that you'll find a setting that better suits your needs.

Henry, I read your first message again and believe there could be some confusion about using the words "thread" versus "post" or "posting". You seem to use the word "thread" for both "thread" and "post", which probably did not give you the answer you were looking for.
  • A thread is a sequence of messages.)
  • A post is a message in a thread (e.g. the initial message and replies or replies to replies).
Both of them can be accessed via Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI) which in the early days of the World Wide Web (WWW) were refered to as URLs (Uniform Resource Locators). For the purpose of this discussion about AlfaBB, we can assume that URIs and URLs are the same. In other environments, they may differ (e.g. when the same resource exists at multiple, individually addressable locations).

Anyhow, an URL for a thread looks like this:
New Author and Thread Preview?!

...while an URL to view a single post looks like that:
www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/showpost.php?p=124805

If you get an URL for viewing a single post, you should also see the thread it belongs to in the top right corner of your browser window. Although it doesn't show it as an URL, you should be able to click on the text string to see the whole thread.

You can have the setting of "linear" selected under UserCP>Edit Options>Thread Display Mode but this setting can still be over ridden by whatever you have selected in the "display mode" link that can be found when looking at a thread/post. Whatever setting you select it will stay in that mode until changed.

More explanation about the differences in modes:
http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/faq....b_threadedmode

See the image below for the "display mode" link location.

Gosh, that setting must have been there forever, but I never noticed it.
