Pictorial Guide to Alfa Romeos
I'm not exactly a newbie, but I still have a hard time keeping all the different models straight. I can't look at a pic and decide if it's a GTA, GTV, GT Junior, 1300, 1750 or 2000. Some of you may laugh, but I thought it would be helpful if we had a gallery or thread of sorts in the Picture Room as a reference that would show several views of each model, maybe front, rear and side. I know it would take some work, but what a great way to make everyone more familiar with some of the less-known models. Along with each model pic could be a short description of the car, engines available, etc.
Thanks in advance to whomever takes on this herculean task.

Jami, thanks for the link. I forgot they had that section. I still think something on this BB would be nice too, especially showing member cars. Anyone else agree?

Since there have been a few different threads on this very subject (not only on GTVs but Sedans and Spiders as well) in the past couple of years, I agree; it's a good idea. Perhaps a sticky at the top of each forum titled 'model differences' or something similar.
So who's the volunteer?

PJ, that's a great idea. We could stick it under the section on the different models. Somebody's gotta have alot of time and expertise on his hands. I have the time, but not the expertise.

I like the idea too. It would be very informative to new and existing bb'ers. I know I could use the education.

Jim, thanks for the PM and gracious offer. I'd love to capture the collective wisdom represented by the members on this BB so that future Alfisti can learn and benefit from it. BTW, that's analogous to what I do in the Army right now too, so I'm a strong believer in not repeating history. Just think how much info there is just in the grey matter of the members. This project may be a great way to start cataloguing that info.
Carlo, thanks for the bump. BTW, did you ever find out how some of the folks in S. FL got the new Alfas into the country?

An Alfa can be brought into the country for one year on a diplomatic visa. In some countries, a diplomatic visa can be arranged. Once in the country, the cars' visa can easily be extended by one more year. The government doesn't verify that the car is returned to Italy or whatever country it came from. However, if a cop stops an expired visa car and checks the vin numbers, the car will be impounded and the (now former) owner can be heavily fined. It opens the possibility of leasing a car in europe for two years, bringing it here, then returning it after the lease is up. Of course, most leases prohibit taking the car out of the country, but in Europe, who knows.
Yes, I know cars don't get visas, but Im just calling it that for lack of the actual name of the piece of paper.

Carlo, thanks for the info. Now if only some crooked diplomat was willing to sell his 156 GTA. Wait, what am I saying, where would I ever find a crooked diplomat? Sheesh, not in the UN, that's for sure. LOL.
Thanks again bro.

Mad Scientist, I agree, even though it's on the carsfromitaly site, I think a thread in each section of the technical forum showing pics of a nice example of that car with the technical specs and engine info, etc. ould be a great reference tool.

I don't know if it could be done efficiently in a forum format, but comparisons of things from different years would be helpful. "These are the side mirrors from an '86 Graduate. These are the side mirrors from an '84 Veloce." There's a lot of this kind of information out there, usually in the "what's not original on this eBay car" threads, but it would be great to have it in one easy-to-find place.

Chuck, you hit the nail on the head. That was the point of my original posting when I talk about all the different models. It's so hard to follow some of the discussions of the experts on the BB when they talk about "that's a European model because it has the doodad from a '69 thingamajig and the swirly-things didn't get put on the American model until '70". I feel like a moron when they start that and just wish they'd include pics so I know what the thingamajig looks like.

And a cogent discussion in one place of the different trim levels, like the differences between a Milano Silver, Gold, Verde, Titanium, Platinum, etc. Okay, I made the last two up, but how logical is it to have the Verde (Green) be the top of the line? I know it refers to the cloverleaf, but some wouldn't know that. And it wasn't until I actually got to see and drive LaVoche's Verde beauty that I really understood how nice that option package is.
