The last two days while viewing the bb I've been redirected to a different site, (some sort of IQ test) its not a pop up, its a completly different site.
That was my experience, too. When I suddenly found myself at the spurious IQ test site my virus software stopped two separate virus d/loads before I could x out.

I ran a boot level scan of my computer and it appears to be clean but the experience was disconcerting. If you haven't done so, it would probably be a good idea to run a thorough anti-virus and anti-spyware scan of your computer.

Yup, same experience here, only our anti-v is older and some of it gets through. At any rate, now it's 3 people reporting getting re-directed to a site that tries to download spyware. This isn't the only hobbiest site with the problem, there are many others. I'd tell you which ones, but my users deny doing anything non-work-related when I ask them why their systems suddenly become infested with spyware.

IQ Test

Interesting. After reading this thread, I hit the back button and the IQ page came up. The back button on IE was grayed out and when I closed the IQ page, the BB was gone. I returned to todays post and hit the link to this thread. A wierd yellow page ad came up. shut it down and restarted the bb and once again came to this link and no problem (we'll see if it will post this reply). I use avast kept current and run adaware ~weekly. I have noticed a few stray popups in the past but not every day

Simon,

I think it is pretty clear that ads from this site contains spyware or other malignant or intrusive software. I have updated to latest protective software that I have available for home computer through my work, and it constantly picks up stuff and blocks things when I'm on the BB. Many of the ads on the BB are pretty cheesy - do they really bring anything in terms of $?

Anyway, the result is basically that I frequent the BB far less since it is a hassle to clean up should something get through. Just not worth the hassle.

Jes,

YES the ads are needed to keep the site turned on. Currently our subscription base is not large enough to cover our costs.

I'm not really sure how you are seeing what you are reporting since you are a platinum subscriber and shouldn't be seeing any ads at all. Just trying to understand what you are reporting.

The problem seems to have gone away. I'd imagine whatever ad company sleaze that thought it'd be a good idea to try this stunt was found out and banished. It wasn't just this site, it was several and I imagine it had something to do with the ad service you all use.

At any rate, last week I was getting hit 2-3x per day if I left the site up all the time. Starting about Thursday of last week, it just stopped.

I got hit just yesterday. Simon, I often browse without logging in - say if I have a couple of minutes to check what's up. I never leave the window open nor do I auto-login. Generally, storing pw on a computer is a bad idea. I understand that I can just log in and not see the ads, but I was thinking in more general terms for the good of the BB. Anyway...
