AlfaBB Hall of Fame

For the fun of it, how about making an AlfaBB Hall of Fame where BB'ers are inducted when they pass, say, 2500 postings or some other measure?

Just a fun way to recognize the big contributors to the BB community. Hmm, maybe we need to put a weight on those postings - higher quality = higher weight...

I'm kind of opposed to the notion of a Hall of Fame based on the number of posts because I bears the risk of rewarding mental diarrhea. The BB by itself is a record of how much members have contributed, and by 'how much', I mean quality not quantity.

On the other hand, maybe an annual Biby or BeBe (as in BB) award would be useful for categories such as MVP for technical contributions (à la papajam, roadtrip, roller and ossodisepia), funniest thread/post, best photos, etc.
That would put the focus on quality and allow recognition for members who weren't around from the beginning but make very valuable contributions.

How do you think I feel? I'm already on page 9 (out of 100+ pages) and I registered about a month ago.

Oy, and I'm around fourteenth. Can't imagine where I'd be if I posted all the times I wrote a reply, thought better of it, and deleted it instead.

I assume this list doesn't include any stats from what was lost when the server went out.

How about hall of flame?!?! haha, kind of like the "best of craiglist" section for funny, outrageous posts?

I feel like a little duck flying over a pond at the hunting range...waiting to be shot down

I agree -- let's reward quality, not quantity. Having said that, I've just added another post to my count.....

Thread Hijack.....

Interesting we have the most posters list pulled up. One day I was playing with this to see really how many people we have contributing. I actually started from the bottom of the 108 pages of posters, with 30 users on each page. It is amazing to me how many people have zero, 1, or 2 for their post counts. Like 52 pages or so with 2 posts or less. So lots of lurkers that need to come out and play. Only about the first 20 pages or so contribute....first 10 pages or so regularly.

Now returning to your topic....

Best Regards,
John M

Much of the car business or car hobby is a spectator sport. Before I made a committment to buy an Alfa, I was lurking on a Yahoo newsgroup for 3-6 months. When I figured out I liked the way people exchanged information. Seeing how helpful they were gave me the confidence that I could put up with the special needs of a 40 year old car.

So, in my opinion, lurking is perfectly OK. It allows members to visit AlfaBB as if they were reading a magazine. At the same time, the number of users and number of visits probably attracts more advertisers to AlfaBB than the number of posts per member.

Hoo boy!!! Would you look at that!!!

Papajam provides the greatest general technical info and advice for all Alfisti who ask questions on the BB. His enthusiasm, wit, patience and genuine desire to help other Alfa owners, coupled with his extensive library and vast experience with Alfas mean that each and every entry that Jim has made are well worth reading. Thank you so very much Jim!

Italcarguy is not only a young, handsome Rennaisance man of the first order, he also races a 'stepnose', regularly drives the RHD GTA he is restoring, sells the coolest parts and cars and is a born and raised Alfisti who loves to play with his toys. His posts are witty, fun to read...and he often has the inside scoop on how to make your Alfa go faster. Antonio (that's what I call him, though I think he prefers Anthony) is an excellent example of the younger generation of Alfisti. Although he constantly makes me green with envy, I greatly admire his talents and read each of his posts carefully to make sure that I learn as much as I can from the young buck! Thanks for keeping us young Antonio!

Roadtrip seems to be singlehandedly saving more SPICA owners from converting their cars, selling them or relegating them to the scrap heap than anyone else involved in the Alfa community. Not only that, but he has the patience and understanding of a "Dickens" (trying to get a thousand monkeys using a thousand typewriters to write the greatest novel ever written) and a sense of humor that always makes me smile. If I had just one-hundredth part of the knowledge, experience and ability that he has, I would have the best-running Alfa this side of the Great Wall! Between his posts and Jim's, the BB has become the best Alfa technical forum ever! Thanks John...U DA Man!!

As for me, I find it incredulous to note that I am creeping up on these wonderful guys. I have neither the technical knowledge, nor the experience, nor the connections that each of these three AlfaBB leaders have. In fact, I feel pretty embarrassed about being in 4th place in terms of numbers of posts.

I believe that there SHOULD be an annual award of some kind for the 'BB'er of the year. I don't think that the award should be based upon the number of posts, but rather on something more tangible and useful...like the Alfa BB member who best exemplifies what it means to be an 'Alfista'. The way I see it - Papajam, Italcarguy, Roadtrip, AlfistoSteve, John M, JoeCab, Ossodiseppia, dretceterini, BigSwede, nizam, Paradiso, turbolarespider and many, many others would all be in the running for their helpfulness and assistance to those in need.
