Thumbs up Roundtails - time to subdivide?

Is there interest in a seperate forum for ROUNDTAILS?

While they share many parts with other models, they are distinct and very different from other Spiders.
Will there be sufficient postings in a seperate forum to make it worthwhile?
What's your opinion?

Frankly, my '71 shares has more in common, mechanically at least, with the late roundtails than it does with, say, an S3. I don't see a need for a separate forum.

I don't feel the need myself. A glean a lot of info from the Suspension, Engine and Restoration forums anyway, and they aren't model specific.

A suggestion is that all roundie questions have DUETTO or ROUNDTAIL in the subject line.

I'm just glad to have the BB and a Duetto. Considering how many 105 Spiders were sold over the years I'm still amazed at how few bulletin board/groups there are on the type. The AlfaBB and Alfa Digest seem to be the only forums which see traffic on the subject.

There is much in common between the Series 1 and Series 2 Spiders (and to a lesser extent, Series 3's and 4's) that we all benefit. I vote "no" to keep the cove-sided Spiders together.

I like Beatle's idea - add Duetto to the subject line to note the difference. I could be convinced that a Spica equiped separation could have some merit but I enjoy reading the sucsesses and trials of all spiders.

I vote to keep them together. I find that most of the 105-related talk is relevant to me, be it for a roundtail/Kamm tail or GTV. So I normally peruse the GT/Spider/engine rebuild/suspension/... categories anyway. If we sub-divide too much, we'll end up with seldom visited groups.

I like seeing the input from our Kamm-tailed friends. While I am sure I could just click on the Kamm tail section, that's an extra click, dammit!!

My vote is keep it all spiders from '66 up.

I say, keep all the spiders, 66+, in the forum/section that they are in now...
Besides, then we'd have to be politically correct and make more sections for bosch spiders vs. spica spiders and boattail vs. flat vs. the lip/spoiler thing vs.....

Just an observation...It seems people are afraid/unwilling to change the bb format because, simply, people are afraid of change...hmmm

My take: I don't care. Not from disinterest, just from the "it doesn't matter to me." I have a few forums I watch carefully. If the Spiders split, then I'd have to wade through another topic list, but each would be shorter. I might miss out on some stuff, but I already spend too much time here. Fascinating.

As a former ( and hopefully again a future) Duetto owner and at this time a Kamm tail owner I really dont see the point. The other categories available on this BB cover the differences in terms of resto issues, electrical, carburation, etc, while the general Spider area cover more points in common than not. Changes? they are needed a lot more in our political system...

the poll is closed, but I would have voted to keep them together. There is a lot of commonality, and it saves time having to go through another forum/post in multiple forums

The Alfisti have voted - the nay's have it - let it be so!

Here's my $.02 on this:
I'm not against change if it benefits the BB membership.
I find the Roundtails to be a distinct category.
I find the SEARCH option to be a valuable feature of the ABB. However, I find it lacking in identifying specific postings unless you can identify and eliminate some threads due to their forums. eg: You want info on replacing the clutch disc on a Duetto; you type: CLUTCH into SEARCH. You get 400 posts. You ignore the sedans, GTV's, etc. and begin to read all the Spider threads to determine if one might be a Duetto in order to get a bit of info. After reading and passing on twelve threads you give up and post a new thread and HOPE that someone, who has Duetto experience, will respond and answer your questions - which it may turn out, were answered eight months before but in a different forum!
My point is that by establishing different forums for different types of Spiders, coupes, etc. - we tend to organise the fixes and failures of these models in a more coherent form which can be read and searched in a more timely manner than is now available.

The ALFISTI have spoken, long live ALFA!

GTD,

I see exactly where you are coming from. However, people don't tend to be too particular where a certain thread takes them. Hence you can end up with a pearl of clutch wisdom, hidden somewhre in a photographic thread.

Unless a moderator has the time to wade thru all the posts every day and move them to the applicable sections the SEARCH function is the best tool available. Me ? I simply go ahead and ask the question again. Someone will either answer or send me to a prrevious thread.

Funny how we now have access to SO much technology/information on the WWW but are still not satisfied.

I remember being stunned the first time I used a microwave. Nowadays I tap my foot in anticipation as one takes 1 whole minute to reheat my lunch !!!

Evolution ?
