Trunk Light Contacts

I am trying to get the the license plate lights and third brake light working on my 1990 Graduate. I have cleaned both sets of the three trunk contacts. I am about ready to give up on the three contacts to power these lights and hard wire these lights.

In getting ready for an inspection, does any one have a diagram or labelling for each of the three contacts showing what lights each contact powers, please?

Thanks,
Joe

I had the same problem. I was getting voltage to the contacts on the trunk sill, and the contact on the lid to the lights ohmed out fine.

I ended up putting rubber washers behind the contact housing, around the screws, on the lid to force those contacts harder on the truck sill. It only took one rubber washer per screw.

Trunk Lights cleaner

I disassembled all three lights cleaned the contacts and bulbs, and then sprayed the trunk lid contacts with an electronics cleaner. I use Boeshield T-9 (developed by Boeing). You can get Boeshield at any marine store, or you can get another electronics cleaner at an auto parts store. These lights were driving me nuts, because the bulbs were fine and only one would light. 15 minutes after cleaning they all came on.

I have the license plates lights working after putting the light assemblies through a rusteeze bathe and extreme cleaning of the contacts.

However, I still can't get the third brake light to work. And I have tried the rubber washer trick. I am going to check the parts store for a new bulb housing.

Thanks,
Joe

I could be mistaken, but I 'think' someone a while back sorta confirmed that the 3rd brake light on the S4 was the same as what was found on a simular era Corvette.

My 1990 is an S3/S4 hybrid which makes ordering parts tricky. My car has the S3 spoiler with integrated third brake light.
