Wet passenger feet

My '89 Spider's passenger footwell fills up with water, sometimes, after a heavy rain or a vigorous washing. I've noticed 2 peculiar things when this happens:

1. The outside of the AC housing under the dash is all wet.

2. The Coco Mat has a reddish tint to it.

I recharged my AC a few years ago and included a Freeze 12 leak indicator dye, which I believe is the cause of the red.

There's just so much stuff jammed under the passenger side dash of the AC-equipped car that I don't know where to begin to look. I'm assuming that the water is coming in through the vent near the windshield, which is why it's only wet sometimes (depending on the direction of the rain/hose spray).

I've checked the drain hose for the AC and it's nice and clear - a blocked AC drain wouldn't explain why the outside of the housing is wet.

Any ideas to save me the painful process of getting up under the dash without a plan will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

There is a cowl drain hose on either side of the car. You can see them from inside the passenger compartment. If the one on passenger side is torn (not unusual after so many years), then water will leak into the car. Replacement hoses are available from the usual suppliers...

You may also try a search, as I'm positive this subject has been covered before, and I also recall some pictures by BB member ghnl...

Best regards,

I had the same problem with my S4.

My drain cowl was cracked.

If you pull your glove compartment box you will see it clearly.

Good luck.

That means that there is no glue (in the corners) between the rubber windshield gasket and the windshield...
