More electrical Qs... buzzer & Lights

So... where to start?

Dome lights. I was reviewing the wiring diagram (thanks papajam) and there are two pin switches which I assume means one in each door jam. Here's the strange part, I have two switches on the drivers side. They appear to be identical and therefore factory switches. There is no alarm so maybe the PO installed it? Are two pin switches on the drivers side normal and if so what could the second one be for? I have not traced the wires back but that's the plan for Friday afternoon.

Buzzzzzzer. There are two... one is fried so I'm going to ignore the seatbelt buzzer for now. I re-wired the key switch and buzzer per the diagram (connected wires back to the working buzzer) and it sounds when I inert the key... and stays on as long as the key is in the lock no matter what position the key is, even when the engine is running. This can't be right. Can some one describe the function of the buzzer. When should it be on with the key in and when should it be off in what key position.

Yes, there are two switches on the driver side door jamb. One is for the light and the other is for the key buzzer.

As long as the door is open the key-in-the-ignition buzzer will sound. Is it still making noise even with the door closed?

And only one switch on the passenger door. No 'you-left-the-key-in' warning on that side.

Going off my S3 experience here but it sounds like a similar setup.....you should have 2 wires going to the ignition cylinder that are for the key buzzer......one goes straight to the door jam switch, the other goes to the buzzer. Putting in the key and leaving it in the "off" position makes the connection between these two wires. And opening the door grounds the switch to the frame = BZZZZZZZZZZ!

Both buzzer systems were non-functional on my Spider when I got it, due to rodent damage that was improperly repaired by a P/O. I fixed all that and got them both working again....sometimes I regret it.

yeah.... I know what you mean. I got the key buzzer working and I was like "Wow, it works"... now 2 days later I'm like "F***, it still works".

I'm thinking of installing a small disable switch for those days I'm working on the car.

I need to replace the dead buzzer so I can regret getting the seatbelt warning working too.

Thanks for all the help (shakes fist at the BB)

If you wanted an alternate use for the buzzer without the need for an accesory switch in there, you could disconnect it from the ignition switch and tie it into the parking/headlight circut instead.

I dunno about you guys, but I've walked away from cars with the lights on FAR more times than I have with the keys in the ignition......

You'll never hear it if you buckle the belt before turning the key. (unless of course you're working on the car with the switch on and the belt unbuckled )
