69 MC Rebuild - Which Seal is Which?

I am working to restore the brake system on my 1969 Spider. I've read the excellent articles posted by Jim and Brian and they certainly have set me straight on a number of items. My master cylinder is in good shape internally and I bought the two IAP seal kits Brian recomended for the rebuild. I have just one more concern. I'm wary of trying to match the new seals to the ones now in the MC. Which seal is which in the 4822 kit? The two types of seals included appear to me to be very similar, except that one has a harder, more defined corner on the leading edge and a thinner inner section. Is this the primary seal? Is the one with the slightly thicker inner section and the somewhat softer leading edge profile the seperating seal? This seems to match best with the information I have. I can't distinguish any concentric grooves on either seal. What is the distinguishing characteristic or characterisitics I should be looking for?

Thanks much,
Bob A.

There are five usable piston seals in the kits. Two pairs (two thick inner section and two thin inner section) and an 'oddball' fifth seal. Referring to the pic here, seal number 3.3301-2234.1 are the 2 seals with the thick inner section and seal #3.3402-2201.1 is the oddball.

You don't really need to see the groves as the seals have different profiles. Look carefully at the two images. The red arrows are pointing to the seals with what I would call shoulders. See how the flair of the seal is different?

Great pics, osso! Thanks.

In osso's pics, the red arrows point to the seals with the thin inner section, the two seals on the right in pic #1 have the thick inner section and the seal on the right in pic #2 is the oddball (the seal closest to the pushrod).

Thanks for Confirming

Osso and Papajam,
Thanks so much for reinforcing this point. Perhaps I was being overly cautious, but I wanted to be sure I was getting it right. I only want to do this once.

Best to you both,
Bob A.

Well, it is only your brakes, after all....
