Rear Axle Limit Strap

The rear suspension is nearing completion, so it's time to tackle the straps.

Does anyone know the factory way of setting up the Axle Limit Straps?

Does it matter much?

I’ve seen it done in several ways, see photos below (A-D).
My car seems to have old Limit Straps with no rubber coating at all (?).

I like option D so the shiny vinyl or rubber is exposed to the elements and not the inner string weaving.

I don't know the factory way but I set mine up as shown in "D" , made the most sense to me as having the weave rub against the axle made looked like a bad idea.

I installed the new straps in the same way that the old ones were. Of course that doesn't mean the old ones were installed correctly...

I'm told by my old Italian mates, been doing these cars for thirty plus years here in Melboure, that this is correct.
Also double straps is what your supposed to have btw.
I fit single as it's only a road car and this is the way I oriented mine with the mesh on the inside.
When you think about it, the inside is not "rubbing" as it were on the axle case,
they are reasonably static in position and the case and strap come together on the inside of a tight corner.
What I thought was a good idea was a clear varnish on the ally block itself, and a layer of plastic between the ally block and the steel plate. A bit of squashed plastic would separate the metals and maybe keep a bit of the moisture out.
When I took mine apart this was where the rust in the bolts was advanced most, I think due to the reaction between the ally and steel and I had a reasonable nightmare removing the old bolts out of the ally.
Hit my thumb flatout with a hammer!! That type of thing.
Ill do some pics if interested.
Cheers

Those retaining bolts give everyone great fits. I had to drill them out. I slathered the new ones with lots of anti-sieze. Afterwards I read that someone here (sorry I can't recall who to give them proper credit) slipped a piece of heat shrink tube over the new bolts before re-assembly to prevent the steel bolts from contacting the alloy spacer block. I think that's a good idea.
