Oil Gauge part 3!

Got the gauge out the dash and have a couple of questions:
1. why is there an oil pipe coming out of gauge and where is it supposed to go on the sender?
2. There also appears to be a black and red wire which is supposed to go to gauge but doesnt???

thanks

Sounds like a mechanical gauge. Perhaps a PO installed it because the electric gauge/sender was kaput?

As Eric said, it sounds like a mechanical gauge was installed to replace the original electric gauge. Can you post a pic of the gauge?
The red/black wire behind the gauge is an original gauge wire that goes to the sending unit located just above the starter (right rear of the engine). It's probable that the pipe from your current gauge is connected to the engine where the original sending unit should go. If so, you should see the other end of the red/black wire somewhere around the starter.
What is the problem with the current gauge/pipe that you can't drive the car?

I shall go and take some pictures for you! Might be the easier option and I do appreciate the help by the way.

Sounds like you either need to figure out how to re-connect the mechanical gauge (usually they are quite reliable - unless it is just broken...) -or- get the proper elcetrical gauge & its sender.

Alfa Parts Exchange is a good source of useful used parts. Just call them - the web site lists the phone number.

That's an aftermarket gauge for sure. An older SunPro from the look of it.

It's quite possible to get a new tube in a replacement kit for cheap if you first make sure that there actually something to connect it to on engine end.

If someone kitted it out fully, they likely put the other end where the orginal sender was (near the starter as described by papajam) or up behind the dipstick tube where the low pressure warning light sender is. (those are prolly the only places one could tap in without doing some kind up machine work on the block actually)

Likely brass, for sure would have something that looked like a double nut (ferrule/'wedding band' type compression fitting)
