I had a similiar leak and it was the inner shift boot. I replaced the boot and used a radiator clamp to hold onto the housing, this was a mistake because after several weeks the clamp cut through the boot and I had to replace it again. It is a little difficult to get the boot to seal well because there is not much of a lip to work with where the vents are. This time I put duct tape around the base of the boot to protect it from the clamp and it has been fine for several months now.

If you've got time and patience, you can kinda counter roll the edges of the clamp to ensure that bit doesn't apply pressure to the rubber.

Pliers or vice grips would work, but ideally straightening the clamp out them peening it over a dolly would be the smoother/neater way.

Conversely, a strip cut from an innertube and used between the clamp and boot as an insulator would also work well.

Or, just don't tighten the clamp so much
