Beck/Arnley Thermostat

I beleive that my thermostat is not opening (upper hose cool to the touch, engine running hot) so I picked a Beck/Arnley one at a local foreign car parts place, part # 143-0313. It has the "dual plane" feature with a small disc on the bottom. Does anyone have any experience with these? Or am I wasting my time? Who sells the best OEM type and is there much difference?

Test the new one in a pot of water on your stove before installing it. Wherever I buy a thermostat, that's something I always do before I use it on one of my Spider's.

Good advice Bob, I had intended to do that.

IAP and Centerline sell T'Stat's, all same 82 on. they come complete with the aluminum top and outlet for the rad hose (thin integral black rubber gasket) made in Italy, not sure of the make.

These t"stats tend to fail to close and as such never let the engine go above 160. That signals the ECU's to run rich and not go closed loop.

As a follow up I removed the old t'stat today and it is the type described by Elio, which also means the Beck/Arnley one will not work. I doubt it actaully would work without major surgery on the old one to remove the guts from the alum. housing. Not worth the effort.

I tested the old one and it worked OK. Unfortunately the t'stat was not my problem, as I relate in another thread.
