Question Ignition Key Blanks

I would like to get a spare set of keys made as I only have one set for the ignition and one for the doors. the ignition key is cracked and I am fearful that when I need it most, Murphy will break it.

I can have them cut locally if I can get my hands on some blanks. Where can I get the correct blanks?

Thanks for the help

Darren,

Thanks,
I'll try the Baltimore dealer tomorrow.
I need blanks for a 74 and 79 spider. I hope they are the same.

Ignition-wise likely yes.

The door/glovebox/trunk key has several different variations on the slots in the sides as denoted by the 1st number in the code stamped into the side of the key near the grip portion. (eg: a key number of 4962 would be a type 4 blank)

Either key can be replaced with a FIAT blank if your smith is has a good variety of blanks and is willing to look through them for a match.

I had good luck with Keys 4 Classics in Australia. I gave them the key code, they sent back an ignition key that worked perfectly. You know that sticking you sometimes get with a copy of a key? None of that. It's better to get a new key cut to the code rather than to copy an old, worn key. The blanks aren't NOS Alfa blanks, but they look okay. I had them make two ignition keys for me, one that I use for the car and the other that will be a model to copy from should I lose the "in use" key or if I get anal and decide to get new keys made on NOS blanks.

Ignition Key Blanks

Hi,

I am also in Atlanta. I recently purchased blanks or my car at this web site and took the blanks to a lock shop in Sandy Springs for cutting. Worked great.

Thanks for the link to key men!

As soon as I can determine the series for the door trunk, I will place an order.
I will also try to find the key code but I am doubtful that I will be able to get that as I do not have any original paper work for the car.

My original ignition key had the code stamped on it, six characters with the first being a letter, otherwise I'd never have known it; my door/trunk/glovebox key has the series stamped on it. Paperwork for my car was probably lost two or three owners ago.
