My 86 Spider lives

I finally got it running. Big thanks go out to tifosi who has been ever patient with questions/pleas. As it turned out, my power to the pumps problem was battery related. As an Alfa newbie, I under estimated the power needed from the battery. While I was concentrating on the in tank pump and busted sender unit, all the cranking I was doing was drawing down the battery. While it sounded ok cranking, it was not putting out enough volts to run the pumps. It gets better. I never thought to disconnect the main pump while I was working on the in tank pump , duh! So, no gas, no cooant for the pump, fried pump. After a quick stop to the local auto parts store (yes they had the pump in stock) and a 150 bucks later, she started right up. But I have got a question that I hope someone can answer. My in tank problem was a falty pigtail from the sender to the pump. I managed to repair it with a bit of sodering, but had to strip away the coating on the resister. I am pretty sure that is my best interest to have this covered, does anyone have any ideas? There was a spray product that I remember years ago that I used to use to coat tool handles, almost like a rubber consistancy. Safe for fuel tank?
Thanks in advance.

I don't know if that stuff would be OK inside the fuel tank.

How about some fuel tank sealer? POR 15 fuel tank products Or get some fuel tank leak repair epoxy

Thanks, I will look into it. I actually have some family in Italy who are trying to bring some parts on their next visit. When I asked them to have one of the local guys just make one up for me, the pigtail, you would swear that the Alfa is a German car. They had no idea what I was talking about, or my connections there are not understanding what I was needing. Anyway thanks for the suggestion.
