84 Spider Alternator Belt Replacement

Ok folks. I am in the process of replacing my alternator and have the old one out ( removed air box etc) and while the current belt looks "acceptable " thought I would put in a new belt as well. I can not see how to put a new belt on without having to take some other stuff off and do not know where to begin. Is there a trick to the trade to slip off the old belt from the various shafts. I obviously have it off the old alternator and can slip it off the other two pulleys but can not see how to get it around the existing shafts. I am bout ready to just go with the existing belt unless I am missing something and can easily get the old belt off and the new one on.

Thanks in advance as always. I am sure you fellow Spider gurus have faced my dilemna before but I could not "search up "and answer .

If your Spider has A/C, you'll have to remove the front half (3 bolts I think) of the crankshaft pulley and remove the A/C belt first. Then/or if no A/C, just work the belt past one fan blade at a time.

Jim,

Thanks for reply. Since I am not at home can you tell me what the size of the crankshaft pulley bolts are and how accessbile they are without removing anything else now that alternator is out. Thanks again,

Rick

I believe that the bolts take a 13mm socket (which would make the bolts 8mm).
