Hard to bolt in new top frame?

Hey all,

I might be buying a used top and frame from a fellow board member. I was curious how hard it is to unbolt my old frame, and bolt in the new frame with the nice top. Seems like it shouldnt be that rough to do right??

The hardest part will be the many small nuts/washers that secure the rear of the top to the body work. Often they get rusty & sieze. It can be a real pain if they break off... I suggest applying some penetrating oil ahead of time to make that a little easier. I like PB Blaster. Then apply a little anti-sieze when you install the new-to-you top.

So other than that am I wrong to think this is a pretty simple job? Is there a schematic as to where all the bolts are?

Fairly easy. Lots of 6mm nuts around the perimenter. Studs like to break so penetrate oil and be gentle. The frame is secured at the b pillar with a couple big bolts on either side. Two person job to pull the frame as it has to be coaxed out of the channel...so you won't scratch paint.

Be sure to clean very well the gutter channel, as you will probably find much debris/peat moss down there from the years. You might want to place it in your garden. Then wash down well with water, dry, and coat with a tar like material, to protect for future. Dont get the tar slopped anywhere else!!
