The clip is about one and a fourth inches. My only wory is it dropped into the belt right below, I'm going to try and search around for it more tommorow, or the day after. I'd love a replacement but I don't want to scrap it off someone elses distributor.

As for the magnet, one of the first things I did was tie a string to a magnet, and loop the other end around a windshield wiper so I wouldn't loose it, but never had much luck with it.

I am thrilled to say it starts, and runs. I spent a good two hours checking every nook and cranny, very theroughly, I thought, without any luck. Then while I was at the harware store I bought wone of those telescoping magnet deals, didn't think it would work, but I stuck it behind the distributer, heard a click and there it was. After hours of searching, only took a matter of seconds. Then I ran a continuity test from the mystery wire to an aftermarket toggle for the cold start, and I got a match. Hooked it up and fire right up. Thanks to everyone who helped!

You should have bought a lottery ticket while you at the hardware store, too. Must have been your lucky day!

Glad to hear you got it sorted out.
