Source for stock springs?

Does anyone know of a source (USA) for stock springs, front & rear, for a 69 Spider? Trying to restore some semblence of a civilized ride.

Darn, I'm sorry to hear that. It has "performance" springs on it now & sits way too low & rides like a brick.

Thanks for the reply,

Donco

Well, exactly what springs are on your car?

There are many versions of "performance springs" out there, from mild (street) to race. Some people do think stiffer is always better, and it's not, but some of the street performance springs give a pretty decent ride if set up right.

Also, what shocks do you have and are they in good condition?

Urethane vs. Rubber bushings, while you're at it...

You might try the UK sources or AFRA. If Re-originals doesn't have them, prolly no one in the USA will.

Cheers,

Not sure what springs are on it, perhaps IAP? They are red powder coated, rears are much smaller diameter than the spring pads seem they should be. Just bought the car a month ago. Needs tires, presently has well worn Pirelli P6's 195-65-14 on stock rims & seems to have quite a bit of sidewall flex. Just did new trailing arm & trunnion bushings with stock OEM rubber, shimmed the trunnion correctly, let the weight down on the rear wheels before torquing the trailing arm bushings. I'm thinking new tires ~185-65 or -70 should help. My aim is comfort, handling is secondary, for me it's all about top-down fun & won't ever track it. I put new Gabriel shocks on the rears when I did the bushings, Caribou claims their close to the stock spec & the old shocks were shot. Waiting to see if I can get stock springs before putting the new front shocks on. I e-mailed "Alfaholics" in UK this morning, I see they list stock front & rear springs for 60 lb/pair. Will wait & see if they have them in stock & can ship to the US.

Thanks all for the replies. What would be a good tire for stock rims. I've checked tirerack & 1010's reviews, problem is there isn't that great a tire in existance for the stock 14" wheels. I've had good luck with Dunlop, Yokohama, & Firestone on my bimmers.

Follow-up. www.alfaholics.com has stock springs for round-tails (and likely for most others as well). 60 lb/pair (approx. $112/pair). Shipping for a set of 4 is a bit steep, approx. $93. Talk to Max, very pleasant to deal with. I'll let you know how it rides in a few weeks after installing them.

That's pretty intersting. They are selling the same springs for all of the Spiders. The Roundtails did not share rear springs with the kamm tails. I would like to see pictures of your car after they are installed.

I called IAP last week & they said they do not carry any OE springs for the 69 spider and did not know of anyone in the States that does. I since e-mailed Max at Alfaholics (UK), and he assures me their OE sprngs for a 69 spider are indeed wound to the original spec. Their SUS101 & SUS201 part number designations for various models are from a generic exploded parts diagram that they use for all similar models, the actual spring is unique to each model as appropriate. I too was concerned since it showed the same SUSxxx numbers for the spider as well as the coupe and I know that can't be right. I'm expecting the proper springs when they arrive, will post another follow-up in a few weeks.

Vick Autosports of Fort Worth Texas lists stock springs in their catalog Page 54. The listing for spiders shows the front for 1967-94, but the rear shows only 1971-94. They are at www.vickauto.com or 1-800-466-3428

Donco,

Try calling performance Imports in Albuquerque at :265-0855.

If they don't have new ones, they might have some used ones that will work.

Worst case, you can have some made, but it will cost...
