86 Odometer Not Working

Any ideas on why my 86 Spider's odometer would not be working? All the other gauges in the pod work except the mileage counter! I really don't want to take it out and send it to Palo Alto unless I'm fairly certain it is in the monopod....

If the speedo works but the odometer doesn't, I'm afraid it's Palo Alto time.

odometer

If the speedo works and the odo doesn't there could be a couple of reasons, but for several cars that I have had that happen to it always turned out to be a small plastic gear. For all the other cars except for the 86 Spider I was able to purchase the little plastic gear. I couldn't find one anywhere and was about to call Palo Alto when a whole instrument cluster became available to me so I just installed that.

Good Luck,
Wayne

Sounds like its time to pull the speedo/odo and send to Palo Alto.

You'll be getting a rebate check from the IRS soon, do your share and support the American economy! I plan to drink plenty of beer with my money.

Remove the trim ring by gently prying off and manipulating the ring to get it away from the steering wheel- it won't break if you don't bend too much. There are three screws holding the speedo/odo to the cluster, remove and pull out part way. Remove the plugs from the cluster and ship to Palo Alto.

The odometer on my 88 doesn't work either, but as I pointed out in another thread, I have a milage restriction on my insurance so I kinda like it that way.

So do I........that's why I need to get this fixed!

I don't think they find it very amusing that my mileage has stayed the same for the past 3 years!!
