Renting a Spica Adjustment tool

Hi,

Does anyone have or know where I could rent or borrow a Spica mixture adjustment tool? I need to lean out our Alfetta big time, and I have access to a wide band 02 sensor (Innovate LM-1).

Any help or leads would be fantastic!

Are you referring to the Cold Start tool?

Those tools are nice, but not necessary. That said, coincidentally, some of my Spica tools are currently with a friend in SJ. Send me an e-mail and I can put you in touch with him.

I *strongly* recommend using the Spica tune-up procedure that's posted on the Portland Alfa Club web site. It takes about an hour, and goes through the system from beginning to end. If you dink around with the back end settings, you run the risk of compounding errors that might exist in the underlying settings.

SPICA de-cel tool

Among other tools, you probably need a tool for loosening/tightening the fuel cutoff solenoid. I have some available for $33.95 ea. This will enable you to adjust the mixture and reset the solenoid where you need it. PM me and I'll give you details.

$33.95 for this tool would seem to be a bargain.

Hey BS,

Do you happen to have a link available? I looked on the website (alfaclub.org) and didn't find anything. Is that the group you are referring to?

I actually looked in the Alfa Bible and it looks like I could fashion a tool to release the lock nut. But we'll see. I still might get into trouble.

That is the site I was referring to. Looks like they're doing some work on that section of the site.

I think I have a copy of it somewhere that I downloaded, I'll dig it up and e-mail it if you send me your e-mail address.

AROO Spica Guide

Grant and Brian,
Attached is the guide from the website. We are just finishing up the Tech section of the site, so it should be live in about a week or so. In the meantime, have fun.

Does the tune up proceedure for spica apply to 1969 spica pumps? The cover sheet says 1971 on?

Are there any relevant changes to this proceedure for the 1969 spica or could you use the 1971 measurements?

Thanks

The 69 pumps are different in that they do not have a fuel cutoff solenoid to adjust the mixture. Mixture is adjusted with the screw on top of the logic section. Also, the idle air system is different on the 69s as it the idle speed adjustment. Other than that, the specs are the same for the pump gap and setting the long and short rods. There is also an decel fuel cutoff adjuster on the engine side of the logic section that can be adjusted if you're getting backfiring on throttle-off decel.

PM me if you'd like more tech info.

Grant - As far as loosening the FCS, try carefully tapping a drift on the shoulders of the lockring and see if it comes loose.

Oh yeah, just to update, I will be using a hammer and a drift to release the lock nut.

Sorry for wasting time, but I DON'T NEED THE TOOL ANYMORE, thanks to everyone's input!
I read the club's guide (what a great guide it is too) and will try to get something more than 16 mpg out of our Alfetta after my mid-term.

Thanks again all!
