Front license plate bracket
Does anyone on the site have a picture of the front license plate bracket for a 79 Spider? And/or one of acceptable quality on the shelf to sell me?
Thanks,
Rusty

Front Bracket
Hi. They are 2 identical sheet steel pieces, about 1 inch wide and 1/8 inch thick. Think of a shortened "T" shape with the base of the "T" bolted under the bumper and the top of the "T" vertical with the plate bolted to it. Very simple to make but expensive if you find a real Alfa one.

Not sure if it's the same (guessing not because of the different bodywork) but I have two from my '87 Quadrifoglio I could take pics of and measure for you... I'd send them out to you if you wanted, but in Wisconsin you need a front plate so I'd better keep them incase I get pulled over some day...

Well! I was having a bit of difficulty finding mine so I decided to do a search. It turns out IAP has them for your car here... though a bit pricey in my opinion. Looks like two sheets of metal, one bent and spot welded on the straight one that holds the plate. hope it helps!

Those look just like the ones off an S3.
(from Spencer's link)
I've got a set I pulled off mine in the past couple weeks. (I just put my hands on them today in fact as they were in the way, and even still have a plate screwed onto them)
Can't part with them, (same reason as stated above) but I can definitely take some pix and measurments.
They should be something you can knock out in an hour or so with some flatstock and a few pop-rivets or mig welder if you've got one.

Here's hoping that the powers that be here in Connecticut never notice my car. The 71's front "bumpers" aren't the sturdiest bits of plastic, rubber, and stainless, and I can't imagine how a plate could be very securely attached without inviting damage.
Several years ago in an IAP catalog IIRC there was a photo of the front of someone's Spider, and the bottom third or so of the license plate was very neatly bent backward. It had to have been intentional. The result looked vaguely European and was probably less likely to present an obstacle for tall curbs and the like. I think I'd be tempted to do the same if I was forced to put the front plate on.

On my S3, (with it's slightly more robust bumpers), I shoved the plate up on the mount then rolled the top edge to match the curve of the nose.
Looked FAR better than just a big dumb flat plate on there.
This summer I've gone to an actual international/European style front plate on custom mounts (it all hangs under the bumper) and haven't had any problems with the cops yet. (I think they like it actually, because it can be read from about 2x the distance of a standard plate)

Daren, do you have pictures? Also, where did you get a NY license plate of "european style"?
Thanks,
Rusty

Factory brackets measurements. (figgured this would work better than scratching all over a pic that looks just like the photo up above)
Just make 2 and you'll be there.
I'll have to shoot pix of the Euro plate later. It's not really a NY plate, but it does have my NY tag number on it as custom ordered through this page. I simply added a 'NY' between the flag and the USA
