Rear Shocks.

I am replacing the rear shocks at this time. Another stupid question!!!! How do you get the old ones out from between the springs? I have taken the caps off in the trunk and the way I see it, I am not sure there is enough room to get the old ones out and the new ones in

I think you'll need to remove the cover plates from the rear of the passenger compartment. That's how I did mine.

You can't do this with Craftsman wrenches made from ordinary carbon steel. They make them extra thick to compensate. I love my USAG chrome-vanadium steel wrenches, which are only about half as thick as the Craftsman carbon steel unis. I expect other high grade wrench sets are similarly sized, but don't know for sure.

If you are near Albany, New York, I'll lend you my USAGs. Otherwise you need to source the right size tools somewhere else.

Good luck!
Rex

Perhaps I'm misconstruing the question; I find it easiest to use a spring compressor, unfasten, remove and replace the shock, then re-seat the spring. If you don't have a spring compressor, AUTO-ZONE will lend you one - free of charge!

Thanks for all the replies on this one. We finally figured out that you have to have the top up and remove a panel on either side. Once you do that, life is very simple. so when I go to do the next one it will be far easier. I just could not see the panel until I went looking for it. I guess once you figure out one, the rest fall into place
