Another No Start Thread and Fuses
My 82 Spider has suddenly decided she does not want to start. Searching the forums and the L-Jetronic page, I know I have air, I have spark, but unsure if I have fuel. She was running fine and my wife filled her with gas and that is when the trouble started. The car drove home fine and out for an errand, but on the way back she just died. She restarted fine and got her home but now she won't start at all. I'm going to check the fuses, but I'd like to know where to buy those fuses? All the auto parts stores have are 10, 15, 20 amp fuse in the glass bullet kind (not the 8 and 16 I need). Also, where can I get that big red fuse for the FI ECU?

Fuel filters?
Hi Alan,
Did you check the fuel filters? Since this started when the car took on a new load of fuel, maybe the filters got blocked with dirt?

Since I'm a relative novice at this, whats the easiest way to check the fuel filters? And can anyone post a pic of the fuel filter so I know what I'm looking at?

Sometimes you can find the bullet style fuses by asking for fuses for an old VW.
I'm not sure what you mean by the 'big red fuse' for the fuel pump. There is an in-line fuse holder for the fuel pump's fuse next to the computer. The fuse holder in our car is red plastic - is that the one you are asking about?. Unscrew one end and you'll find a fuse inside the big red fuse holder. In our Spider it is a bullet style fuse (same as in the fuse box).
The fuel filter is underneath the car - just forwards of the rear axle on the right side. Metal can shaped unit about 2" dia X 4" long with a fuel line going in one end and out the other.
Are you sure your wife filled it with gasoline? And not diesel...!?!

Yup the fuel pump fuse is in that holder. I need to swap that one out to test. When I spray some ether in the intake, she starts for a few secs then dies, so I'm not getting fuel for some reason. When changing that rear fuel filter, do the alfa's need to have the fuel system depressurized? If so, how? Also, does anyone have a part number for that fuel filter?

I do not have any experience with fuel injected cars (Marelli, Bosch nor Spica) so I could be wrong!
I had a look in my manual and it says that for the cars with Spica injection until and including 1978, the main fuel filter is located under the plenum/airfilter housing. You will find it low down and opposite of the inlet of the number 3 and 4 cilinders.
The tank fuel filter on Spica cars is, according to my manual, secured to the rear underbody of the car.
The main fuel filter should be changed every 6000 miles, the tank fuel filter every 12000 miles.
