Fixing a slow speedo in the '74

My speedo is reading about 25% low (reads 60 when I'm doing 80)... any tips/procedures on how to correct this?

You gots the right size tires on there?

Any chance that you ended up with the wrong transmission drive gear after a swap/rebuild?

Willie R.'s page may be helpful, although there seem to be some broken image links since the last time I looked at it:

http://www.veloce.se/MECH3.HTM

I haven't tried the procedure myself, though I've been meaning to. My speedo reads about 10% fast.

My experience with 2L Spider gauges (I've got several sets) is that they're not adjustable in the way Willie describes. I've completely disassembles both speedo's and tach's, but just don;t find that adjustment screw.

Yeah... I still consider Southern California home... but I now live in Northern California.

I know United Speedometer very well... they got me some metric VDO gauges a few years back. Palo Alto Speedometer Palo Alto Speedometer: Repair, Restoration, and Sales of Automobile Gauges is well known in these parts but they are quoting in the $180 + range to look mine over and tweak it...

Since my motto is "why pay $20 to buy something when you can spend $35 and build it yourself" I figure I'll crack mine open and twiddle with it to see how badly I can break it then buy a new one and send that out for calibration.

Thanks for the advise.

I have to agree with you... I could not find a way to adjust it.

I'm not sure how to fix this myself...yet.
