66-67 Red Duetto Needed for 60 Min
Got a call from 60 Minutes. They're interviewing Dustin Hoffman on Fri and would like a Red Duetto (like he drove in the Graduate) for him to drive from Malibu to Santa Monica. Need to know ASAP if anyone in the area can fill the bill. Email me or phone 818-427-2054.

Can't help with a loaner, but here's a pic of the actual Duetto from the movie.

I talked to a man who used to work for alfa in the 60's and 70's on the west coast. He told me there were actually two duettos used in the movie. Alfa gave the first one away for free to use in the movie. Apparently Mr. Hoffman wrote it off during filming. The alfa prez. was so upset about this that alfa made the movie company buy the second one!

It took three Lotus Esprie`s to make Pretty Woman. Two they gave away and one they totaled.

One of the two cars from the movie was turned into a factory race car. That's why the colour scheme is orange and black. That's Dale MacGowan driving his Duetto. Dale still has the car and takes it out to the occassional track event in Denver.

Norm, I wish you would have rang me up. I would have gladly provided my Giuli for the program, provided he was gentle with her.
Speaking of the # of cars used for filming, I understand that BMW 'donated' 35 odd Mini Coopers for the filming of the "Italian Job".

Sorry Iori, too many club members and cars and not enough memory to keep track of all of them.
1 - Will we have the pleasure of you and the Misses on the wine tour this weekend?
2 - Will you be ready to Time Trial in Jan or will you drive Intro (tame stuff after school, but still track time)? If you don't TT, but you come up for awhile, I'll be happy to give you access to the Depends and a Barf Bag and strap you in my passenger seat for a few laps .

1. We're certainly going to try, if we can find a sitter.
2. I just picked up a used Miata as a track car. Should be ready to go come January!

The original Italian Job only wrecked 16 Mini Coopers (fairly cheap, and NOT donated by the factory), but the classic grand tourers (Aston DB4, Lambo Muira) crushed by the bulldozer in the opening scene were real and much more valuable, and not donated either!

The Miura that was bulldozed off the cliff wasn't real according to the making of extras on the DVD. It was a rolling chassis without an engine. For the Aston they used a Lancia in the front loader scene. The Jags however were real.
Cheers,

67 Duetto
I've got a '67 Red Duetto, and live close by (Ventura County), but unfortunately, my son crunched the drivers door a couple of weeks ago , so it wouldn't look right for filming, I'm sure. Also, I have the plexi covers on my headlights and Cromodora rims, not like in the movie "The Graduate". Too bad! I'd have loved to have seen my Duetto being driven by Mr. Hoffman!

According to the director, they got them cheap and didn't think twice about wasting them - back then!
What I found interesting was the E-type WAS damaged yet someone restored it and it's probably around to this day.
