I got the "abnormale" term from Pat Braden's Alfa Bible. There's a chapter that talks about telling old veloces from normales. Many normales were ehanced to veloce performance but aren't technically veloces so they called them "abnormales." Although in 91 they didn't us the term normale vs. veloce, the description fits what I desire my car to be....a nicer, better-than-original, normale spider. But it'd never be entirely appropriate to call it a veloce!

WOW

An honest Alfa owner! Altering, but not claiming it to be what it's not!
There is HOPE!

Hi Rob,

Yes, I know what the original term means. My question concerns what modifications you have made to your S4 spider; I have a '91 Spider Veloce, and am always on the lookout for interseting enhancements. Of course, I can only be amazed at John Duncan; I wonder what part of his car he will polish next. Are you there, John?

CRUISE CONTROL How come nobody else caught this! I'm coming over right now and ripping that out! I hope the cruise control is the only thing that doesn't work and your very cool Spider.

So I just got in. Left out this morning at 7:30 AM and just got home at 2:30 AM. Now that was a full days work! I had a wild hair up my rump yesterday....so I took the 92 for a jaunt up through Indiana. Today I cruised almost 900 miles. As I drove by South Bend, IN....I was humming "Cheer, cheer for ole Notre Dame" and occassionally chanting, "Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!" So if you Hoosiers saw a white Alfa Spider go flying by.....it was me! 32mpg and no hickups!

George you definitely need to get that program....as I am serious about the SC. I definitely want more power and don't want to tinker again with another high compression build.

What to polish next.....well.....I have a feeling I will be soon polishing out another phonedial soon. Looks like the one that got the battery acid treatment in the trunk and is now on the driver's rear is failing. Found this out tonight....so not really sure, but it looks like a lug has pulled through the lug well.....DAM! Didn't effect the drive. I am hoping its the lug nut.

I would like to polish out the cam cover on the 92 as well...but the list is long for things to do. New top to install...shocks and springs to install....and I am now in the market for a behind the cat exhaust.

Cruise Steven is a god send for me. I kind of look like the clowns at the circus cramming themselves into a little VW Bug. I am 6'4 and already have to drive with my shoes off to hit the pedals with my long a$$ legs and feet. Makes for a real smelly proposition. But in all seriousness, the gas pedal angle is very uncomfortable on long journeys so the cruise comes in very handy. Problem is that my knees hit the back of the steering wheel, the door handle, and the dash bolsters. With modifying the interior out of the question in my book....the cruise was a worthy compromise. But feel relieved to know....no cruise on the 78 and no plans for one. Its a totally different setup as compared to the 92. Seats go back farther, a narrower steering wheel, and no bolsters or big door handles eating up knee space. And if that isn't enough......yell at George too....he has cruise on his 91 too!

Best Regards,
John M
