Battery Tender is a major name in the field, and also Yuasa (the battery maker) market chargers and maintainers. Either of these would do the job. Sold at motorcycle and snowmobile stores, as well as catalog and internet. Shop around, as prices vary alot.

I bought the Battery Tenders for both our Spiders from IAP. I've been well satisfied with them and they do work as advertised, maintaining a steady voltage supply during winter layups.

You can either mount the unit in the trunk, or use a double pole trailer connector to plug in the pos/neg leads. I took mine up through the carpeting above the battery with a rubber grommet, and use a male/female two pole connector. Certainly helps preserve batteries over the winter months!

I can attest that Dave has a nice setup. Rubber grommet and all. We were gathered around the trunk of his car a few months ago admiring that handy work. Looks so good one would think it was stock.

Best Regards,
John M

Did you use the Battery Tender Jr? It looks like a nice small size for mounting...

I use the Battery Tender Plus, it's the only one that IAP has in the catalog.

If you pull the battery out, and set it on some cardboard. It should be fine in march. But check voltage every 2 months just in case. I guess it also depends on the condition of the battery.

For what it's worth, I bought an Optima battery for my '76 Spider to eliminate the electrolite sloshing out during autocross activity. I leave the battery connected during winter storage, with no supplmentary charging, and the car cranks as thought it had been driven yesterday. The previous owner of my '91 Spider gave me a Sears battery tender with the car and claimed to have had a constant discharging problem. I haven't had any problem, but always check to see if the footwell lights are out and the cruise control switch is off. Yes, the car has a cruise control.
