engine stand mounting points
how to attach engine stand to 2.0 engine?
it seems that i cant really attach it to the to the side of it, and i dont think there is anything on the front of it, but how about back? can I attach it to these four studs that keep the bellhousing in place (they do not look like they may hold weight of the whole engine) do I have to remove clutch? (i really dont want to do it since i dont have the alignment tool)??

I made a plate to attach to the motor mount threaded holes (via c'sunk bolts), then drilled and tapped this plate to bolt to the engine stand plate.
This works pretty well as you can turn the engine just about any way you want to work on it, with nothing in the way.
Cheers!

I mounted the engine from our '84 Spider to the side of the block, too. (first picture)
There is (was) available an adapter to fit into an engine stand (second picture) but I just cobbled up some spacers and bolted it to the bracket that is normally used to bolt onto the back of of a 'merican engine.
And, no, I don't think those small studs on the Alfa engine to bolt to the bell housing are strong enough

Thanks guys I really appreciate input, I drilled a few holes in the plate and mounted it straight to the block (is it safe to turn it upside-down?) because at this moment my engine may have problem with the crankshaft, (i ruled out everything else so far) btw my transmission is mostly covered in red goo, that was long time ago (or maybe not so long) a tranny oil.
I`ll keep you guys posted, or I`ll post some parts for sale

If it is mounted sturdily, you can rotate it any which way.

Thx Andy, well im still trying to find what exacly happened... one day I was racing home, and i`ve lost power, pressure, temp was fine, coasted to the stop, crank it, it started, but with less power than before, an the lights engine went into silent mode, i crank it a few times but no start, tried to get jumpstart from State trooper, - nothing, and at some point engine stopped even to crank (i thought that was the battery) So Ive towed car home, charged battery and.. nothing ;( i was suspecting starter motor since I`ve replaced starter not so long ago, but i cant turn the engine even by hand... as from yesterday I have engine on the stand in garage, cams are out, head is out, only thing that can keep that ting of turning is crankshaft, or pistons, (though im wandering if the failure of oil pump may "block" crank...)
in the meantime I had to get me another commuter. 1994 volvo 940 turbo, tiny engine, that i can always try to put in Alfa :P
Stay tuned for more news.
