Waterpump Leak?

My 83' Spider has recently developed a coolant leak. Coolant appears to dripping from what looks like about a 1/8" hole on the underside of the waterpump housing right below the shaft. Is this hole put there as a place for the coolant to drip once the seals are shot? From reading previous posts it seems waterpump R&R can be a PIA so I was just trying to get educated before I tackle it. I've only had the car for about a year and for all I know this could be the original pump.

Yes, coolant dripping out the 'weep hole' indicates the waterpump needs attention.
