Finally!
Bought my first Alfa Spider this weekend after many years of wanting one. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself... I suspect I'll be asking alot of questions starting next weekend when I get under the hood and start fiddling around!

Nothing so fine as your Duetto. It's an 84' Spider Veloce. I'll snap some pics in the next day or two and post them.

This is tune-up day! I'm planning on doing the obvious stuff, oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, plugs and wires etc. If there is anything else specific to Alfa's I should keep an eye on, let me know. Thanks again!

Welcome! Glad to see another New Jerseyian on the board... Most seem to be from up North. If you are from the southern end, let me know! I don't want it to seem like Alfa ownersip is like being a part of the Mafia, but once you're in, you can never leave. Also, any problems that your Alfa may have are not problems, but endearing quirks. And you will probably be surprised to find that in spite of these quirks, the cars are indeed very reliable, and in reality run better the more they are driven. When I recently picked up my '83 Spider (to replace an '86), it must have sat for a while at the previous owner's. After driving it every day for a few weeks, things just started working again on it. Like little interior lights and stuff. Many little creaks and groans began to go away, and little hesitations in the car vanished. Logically, I know why these things began to work again, but I like to think that it is because the car was feeling loved... Don't worry, you'll understand, soon. Welcome to the familia.
-Dave.

Thanks for the kind words Dave & Jim. Everything went off without a hitch and I spent all day driving it yesterday. All is right with the world! I did have one slight problem however. I got a little grinding when shifting into 1st or reverse, but this morning I shifted to second briefly before hitting first and fifth briefly before hitting reverse and I got no grinding at all. I guess I'll just keep an eye on it. Anybody else have this issue with their spider? Thanks again guys!

I think the question is "Does anybody NOT have this issue" I hesitate to use the word normal, but this is very common and your solution is what most of us do.
Welcome to the asylum, we love company.

Twins !!!!
Howdy:
Your 84 Spider looks exactly like my 84 Spider !!!! Except for my rusty lower rocker panels, and quarter panels and the odd ding or rust spot. Hey I only paid $2500 for mine!!! I noticed the Spider Veloce script on the front fenders. The P.O. told me that when he had some work done and had it repainted, that it was returned w/out the badges in that location. This is the first time I've acutally seen some in place. There aren't many 84's around up here in Massachusetts. Does anyone know if there is a difference between Normales and Veloces of this vintage? I know from talking to a Guilietta owner that there are differences in 40 year old Guiliettas between Normale and Veloce. Does anyone know where can I get some of these badges???
Thanks
Marc

First, try one of the guys on the board that is parting a car out. If not there, try APE or:
