Tool Kit for 69 Spider Veloce

Does anyone have a photo of a complete tool kit for the 69SV?

According to the manual, mine is missing the pliers and something called a wheel stop? -see photo. I may be able to find them but it would help to know exactly the style I'm looking for. Thanks!

69 SV Tools

You have everything but the pliers and a slightly larger straight edged (slotted) screwdriver, about 5/16". The Phillips is about a #2. My OE Owners Manual lists a "Wheel Brace" which is (British for) the tire iron in your picture. I have no idea what the plastic tube is for. Perhaps mouth-to-mouth. A poor quality scan is attached. I am missing the OE slotted screwdriver. Bruce

In addition to the tools in the GTV kit shown in the pic, the Spiders also came with a plug wrench (as in trans/diff fill and drain plugs), a hammer and four open end spanners. I know I don't have the hammer but I think I have the plug wrench and spanners so I'll post a pic if need be.

Perhaps the earlier spiders, pre-69, or the Euro cars, had those extra tools, but all US 69's had the same basic package as shown in the Owners Manual. I know the AR 69 Parts Manual shows all the extras for the "general/eURO version" and there is no page with tools superseding this in the US Version Parts Manual but all those extras did not come with the US cars. There is also no room in the canvas/fabric pouch. Probably for the Euro cars. I've seen the more extensive kits with the square head wrench and open-end wrenches but not on a US 69. Regards, Bruce

Thanks Bruce. Now that I know what they look like, I'll check with the previous owner about the pliers and flat head screwdriver. It's possible they ended up in his regular tool kit over the years. It would have been nice to have had the more elaborate kits of the earier models, but I guess the car industry was changing a lot during that time with emission and safety restrictions. I had to laugh when I read in the owners manual that the cars came with a full 6 month warranty not including the labor charge to inspect for defects!

the plastic tube in the lug wrench is to prevent scratching the rims.

While living in Dallas, I ran into a guy that had a fairly unmolested 1600 Duetto. He let me borrow the tool kit to photograph and use as a pattern. Gary Valant's wife, Nancy, made a pouch for me. I couldn't find any gunny sack material, so I got something else.

The first picture is the tool kit from the 1600 Spider; it's missing the tommy bar. The second picture shows the pouch Nancy made for me. The last picture shows a pouch I found, somewhere. It is, what I believe to be, the correct pouch for the 1969 cars.

That sure looks like the pouch that came with my 69 GTV many years ago.

The pouch in Chuck's and your last photos is the correct one. I found one of these in the '69 Berlina I bought way back wadded up and dirty in the tire well. It's a pretty flimsy black weave gunny sack material and with one snap versus the two of the earlier 1600 model, not an impressive pouch at all. Somewhere I also picked up a narrower vinyl tool pouch with a fold over flap. It is black with a burgandy trim strap, probably from a later model. I am on the hunt for the slotted screwdriver. May try an Ace hardware for a wood replica and strip the handle's paint until I run across an original one.

PS: My wife just looked in over my shoulder at this thread (checking for porn I guess) and said we all suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder . . . . Time to take a long spirited drive but my seats are out at the upholsterer.

you should have had only one at a time done. or buy another to drive while you are working on the other. that should get your wife worked up.

I'll remember that workaround for 10 years from now when it needs doing again.

Is she implying that we aren't normal?

Unfortunately, I don't have an original toolkit I did make a copy of the page of my German manual though....this is what the early, Euro delivered Spiders got, looks exactly like what other posted for later and/or US delivered versions.

Translation in sequence:

Wheel brace
Pliers
Box spanner for plugs
Tommy bar for box spanner
Phillips head Screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver

I hate to break the news but, yes, we are special. I keep trying to convince her that there are worse neuroses than Alfa tool kits and 4-way flashers . . . Elliot showed us that . . . .
