Question My 77 Spider passed CA smog 1st try, BUT

So, after new plugs, oil, oil filters, engine fuel filter (can't seem to find the right tank filter so will have to make an adapter or something) and cleaning the air filters this past weekend, I took her in for the bi-annual smog check. And what do you know. We got a passing grade on the first attempt. Two years ago it took a major tune-up, a new catalytic converter and a few days at Omega Motorsports to get there.

But I am left with a question. There are two hose nipples facing the engine on the bottom of the air box. The Alfa Romeo Owner's Bible, page 59, figure 6-16, item 12, seems to indicates they are "Main crankcase ventilating system hoses". I have them connected to each other. Where should they really connect?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Including, "if it works, don't fix it."

BTW, it ALWAYS take a few attempts to get it started when it's cold, but I am assuming that is the cold start solenoid.

Thanks,

SoBay Jim

Hello
I can't reply to your main question because I do have a 1974 Spider.
But with the tank fuel filter you shouldn't have any problems with WIX Nr. 33299.
As for the cold start problems ceck that your cold start solenoid is working properly. By searching all forums you will be able to find a way to do so

Spica oil filter

Does anyone have a U.S. filter number (and maker) for the oil filter on Spica FI pumps? My FLAPS says that every manufacturer they consult has discontinued it.

International Auto Parts has them

Go to www.international-auto.com and look up part numbers 3931 for the filter and 99053 for the gasket. I've never had a problem getting them from IAP when I've needed them (including last week for the recent tune up.)

Hello
I do have an old spicafilter with number and brand on it.I tried to get it in Germany but no chance maybe you have better luck over there.
Brand: Tecnocar
Number: OP.60 ( The O is either a zero or an O)
I would be interested what you find out. The hint with IAP is alright for you but for me with custums, sales taxes and transport not.

Thanks for the number. I was hoping to find one made by a company that supplies FLAPS so I wouldn't have to pay the $10 shipping on a $10 part. I guess not.
