New heater blower motor not working

Well, the cooling system is back together, fired it up, apparently no leaks (we'll see...holding my breath). ANyhow, I trued to turn on the new heater blower motor and NOTHING ! The sitch is working b ecause I can hear the fuel pump adjust due to the dfraw and the battery indicator on the tach gets a touch brighter. Thoughts?

Our '86 has a bound up heater fan awaiting replacement. The electrical system knows when I turn it on, even though it gives no indication itself. Same as you. Maybe yours is now bound up or has its motion blocked by foreign matter (are you missing any wrenches? just kidding, sort of...) Posters here (and elsewhere) gave recommendations to disconnect the ventillation duct and reach in to spin the fan manually. This can be done, and we did so, but it always stopped again. It was easy to tell which way it wanted to turn because the motor was still applying some torque to the fan. However, the bushings or something were so bound up it has too much friction. I hope you can get it going again by spinning it. Maybe it has hit a dead spot in the commutator. Or maybe you re-wired it wrongly. Double checks cost little and grant peace of mind.

OK, I fiddled with it and I got 2 off positions on the switch and then one low speed on. I reversed the wires at the bridge between the switch and blower motor and I got 2 offs and one high speed on. Now I'm really confused (however, at least I have high speed). If I could combine the two, I would be golden!

Got it!!! The hot in and ground (to the switch) were reversed so it was only putting out one speed. Swapped those and put the wires to the blower back and I have off, low, hi!

Can't tell you how many times it has just taken a little voice behind me saying, "what about...," to get the problem solved. Glad you are there. I still have to pull a blower housing and replace the fan. I'll probably try to salvage the old one, as an electrical demo for the kids, if nothing else, but I hope to have a functional replacement when I'm done.

I am going to have to try the same with the wipers. After the last wiper motor was put in by my dad a year or two back, it only has low speed.
