What do these markings mean?

When I did my water pump for the Spider I took some pictures. The first pic is the top front of the engine while the second pic is the bottom front. Any idea what all the markings mean? I know the 2.0. (Geez, would you look at that awful grease buildup! You can tell what I haven't been cleaning lately.)

The small symbol in the small circle looks like the "Alpha" Greek symbol.

I just finished an engine rebuild, and while having all the various engine parts around, that greek alpha is all over the place. The plenum for instance.

So if you got a special high performance engine maybe I did too...

Ahhh... yes... that must be the secret...
