Graduate Differential

I want to be sure to put the right fluid in the differential of a 1987 Spider Graduate. Can anyone tell me whether this car has a conventional or limited slip differential?

I'm pretty sure your '87 would have a limited slip differential.

BTW, make sure you can remove the fill plug before you drain the differential...

Good point, GNHL. I had trouble removing the filler plug on my Series 3 car. Couldn't move it with allen key wrench. I succeeded eventually by using a short length of 13mm hex bar connected by a socket to my 12V electric wheel wrench. Fantastic result.

I was only removing it to check the level - I couldn't get any more oil in anyway!

don't forget to put the washer back on the drain plug or you'll be changing the oil twice (don't ask me how I know) 3.0pints is about 1.5Qts
