And I want to reiterate something Gubi said.....DIGITAL meter....not analog with the wand gauge. Check your local autoparts store...Sears....etc and get the best you can buy. Heck, if you are lucky you might turn up one with a tach readout too.

Best Regards,
John M

I found the sensor last night and I was able to wiggle the lead and it moved the spade conector in the plug (it may be faulty) but the check engine light hasn't come back on since then. Too soon to tell about the pulsing in that it has been random. I will look for a digital VOM.

Electrical Problems

I have an '84 with mechanical tach and speedo. My speedo rests at 10mph also and my tach was at least 10% off when I bought the car a year and 1/2 ago. So you are in good company and I doubt that anyone will tell you differently. I went to a reputable speedo shop (United in Riverside,CA...there is also a good one up in Palo Alto, CA) and had the tach calibrated. I suggest you do the same. As for the speedo, unless you are concerned with the accuracy of the speedometer below 10mph, I suggest you don't worry about it. When you get the tach calibrated, they can probably give you an accuracy reading on th speedo as well and you can then decide if it's worth the effort to have work done on that as well. Good luck and welcome to the somewhat unpredictable but wonderful world of the Alfa ownership.

It probably should not wiggle at all. I would check the resistance with the VOM while you wiggle it. If it the resistance changes at all, it sounds like you either need a new sensor or a way of tightening the connection on your existing one.

I will check it. I am having another electrical problem. When I washed my car last week I noticed a small amount of water on the clutch petal and the flor near it. I believe that is came from the drain(?) hole at the base of the driver side windshield wiper post where is comes thru the cowling? My turn signals immeadiatly began working erradically, sometimes wqith out even being in use. And now they don't work at all. I have purchased a new turn signal plug in and it doesn't work either.

Should the holes under the wipers drain some other than into the car? And since the fuse box appears to sit under the driver side drain hole my guess is that it might have gotten wet during the washing.

Hey Steve:

Let her dry out...then pull and reseat the flasher relay in the fuse box. That should resolve your problem. Mine has done the same in the past as well.

Best Regards,
John M

Where are those drain holes supposed to drain to?

Is there a way to test the turn signal unit out of the car to see if it is any good? It still doesn't work in the car.
