Whats the depth of the trunk on an '84 Spider?
Hey all -
Getting ready for the trip - trying to figure out if my suitcase will fit in the trunk. Its pretty thick.... Can someone measure how deep the trunk is so I can determine if this suitcase will fit?
Thanks..

39" wide
12" deep at the deepest part, ('front' of trunk), 8" at the shallowest (back by the latch)

Pretty much
Try a couple gym bags?
Of course there's the cargo area behind the seats, but if the top is down you'd have to worry about someone walking off with your bag.

Will they even let you on with that in your bag? (seems like it would fall into the 'flammables' category)

As an afterthought, mabe ship the oil via express whatever to where the car is, then you can carry whatever kind of bag you want without concern about it's travelability, and the stuff would be at the car when you arrived?
Just a thought mind you.

Why the Amsoil? I mean, this car has been running around on dino juice for over 20 years, I can't see why it can't go a few more miles on a local oil filter and oil!?
Change it when you get home! That solves the luggage problem, right?!

I guess... I just really like Amsoil racing oil and dont want to stress the engine too badly on the 1800 miles drive!

You mentioned on another post you live in Denver, if you are close to me in Castle Rock, you can stop by and see if it fits in my 85 graduate trunk, but do you really want to travel with Amsoil?

Im pretty sure I remember my bag not fitting in the trunk of my dads 87 quad the more I think about it boo - why wouldnt I want to bring my precious oil?
I guess Ill just do a regular oil change there before I leave and swap the amsoil in when I arrive back here in Denver.... Hrmph... I just hate the thought of putting any wear on the car while traveling at 80mph for 1800 miles...

I just verified the 12" height maximum with the ice chest I bought specifically to fit in the Spider. Regardless, I agree with the rest of the posters - There are options to trying to carry oil in your checked baggage. If you're concerned about going 1800 miles at 80 mph - you're not... and if you think you are.... Slow down
You'll have plenty of time to get some fast miles on the car after you get it home to Colorado - no sense testing an unproven motor so far from home.
Just my humble opinion...
Oh and good luck on the trip.. Be safe. Take pictures and let us know when you are home.
