Fuel Pump Noise

Are Spider fuel pumps generally pretty noisy? Mine really likes to hum. I assume it is the fuel pump, the noise seems to come from just behind the driver past the rear bulkhead. The car runs fine, but do you think I might be in for a failure?

Thanks for the info

My '91 makes quite a bit of noise when I accelerate hard, but then goes back to normal after 10 seconds or so. I assumed mine is failing. The car runs fine though.

Good luck
Greg

Yes, they do emit a humm. If it starts making strained noises, changing tone alot, etc, that could indicate a problem. But otherwise, the humming is good. When the noise stops, so does the engine.

I've recently had to replace the fuel pump on my '79 Spider. The original one (Marelli) was leaking and finally died in the middle of nowhere, so I've got a new Bosch one fitted now.

The old pump made a lot more noise than the new one, but I can still hear the Bosch one when I turn on the ignition.
